I have a 1983 argo with a 16HP Tecumseh {OH160}.
It has a load knock in it, I would like to put a new engine in it. Has any body put a different
style one in and what do I have to do to make it work.
Thanks for any help I can get.

alan,
I replaced the tejunkcy 16 in my 82 with a 23 hp briggs. You will have to do major power pack modifications. I cut the power pack frame in half and welded a flat piece of 1/8 in. steel plate to remount the motor to with wings on the side with slotted holes so you can push the whole pack foward to ajust the tranny chains, its a tight fit but it worked well. I can mail you a picture if needed. the problem without the modification is the hood will hit the top of the motor, but this mod will resolve that issue. let me know how it goes or if I can help further.Jon.

alan,
I would go with a honda you can get a 16 hp v-twin for about a grand or a 20hp for about 200 dollars more. What you really need is a good used snowmobile engine they fit into the argos like a dream usally with very little wiring modifications needed. And usally you have to re-drill the mounting plate on the powerpack. and the parts a cheap to replace, though there not as quiet as the hondas.
