My engine is not original so I am not sure of the electrical connections. However it does have the original wiring harness. The engine will run fine but when I turn the key to the center position to run the lights my engine dies. Probably a simple problem but I am not the professor from Gilligan's island and cannot fix it with a bamboo stalk. Any suggestions?

looks like the wireing grounded the kill wire,
take out the key switch and look at the back, there should be letters there indicating there use, b or bat go's to battery~ s or sol, go's to starter solinoid, ~ g or grd, go's to ground,~l or lts,go's to umm your lights, m or mag(i think) for points or coil (to kill by grounding )
just folow as best you can each wire from the leter on switch back to threw the harness to wherever it gos, your mishion is to mach the letters to ending conections they are for,
now if your key switch canot be wred or looks unrelyable then a chhep tractor swich can often be fownd at automotive stores and power equipment shops, i say cheep because the right one cost my friend $13.00 once and then died in 2 weeks, i replaced it myself with the $6.00 plastic one ant that ones still ticking years laiter!
the new one will have leters or instructions!!
well ok, one last thing to do, place a sheet of ruber over dash and cut hole threw it for your switch to go threw, bolter her in and let the ruber down over it, ~vola~ weatherproof starter switch!

now i have a question for you. if the professor can build a movie studio for ginger, how come he can't find a way off the island?

Well if the Skipper would of had an amphibion then they wouldn't of been stuck on that damn island in the first place. Go figure.

Thanks for all your help everyone!!
