Hey everyone, I am restoring a Hustler machine. It has a 16hp kohler 4 stroke. The clutch on it is a comet duster. After much work I've gotten the motor running really well, torn down the T-20 to free the plungers, and replaced some chain.
I put it all back together tonight and was looking forward to taking it for a spin...but...
the primary clutch (the one on the motor...isn't that one called the primary or drive or something?) doesn't seem to want to "grab" the belt. With the tranny in neutral, the clutch doesnt, for lack of a better word, squeeze when the motor revs.
Now the question. How difficult is it to take a clutch apart and grease and clean it up? I am guessing it just needs a little tlc to free things up but I have visions of springs popping out every direction and never being able to put it back together.
Advice from anyone who knows about clutches would be greatly appreciated.
