I live in the UK, i've just bought another Amphicat to use as spares for one i am restoring.
As far as i know i have the only two in the Country.
They are made of different materials, one appears to be ABS plastic, and the other one seems to be fibreglass, which is the earlier modle. Can any one give me any information on age or history?? |

the fiberglass one would be the erlyer one if it is an amphicat at all,
seams there was a copycat co. who made theres so cloase to amphicats that amphicat sued them and they had to destroy there molds!, now im not shur it that co. was fiberglass or ABS. |

They both seem to have the same mechanics, would the copycat one have had the same?
I emailed two Amphicat owners in America, one said his was Fibreglass, the other said his was ABS, i guess the earler ones must have been fiberglass.
Is there any way of tracking chassis numbers to age etc?
This is my fibreglass one.

James:-I can't help you much but I bought an Amphicat new in 1968 from Beehoo Engineering
in Streetsville Ontario Canada (near Toronto).
It had a one speed tranny ,(later I saw a 2 speed).
and a 17 H.P. 2stroke (sachs I think). It looked a lot like your picture but yours is missing the decal, on the front corner, of the cat with the snow shoes in the marsh with a backpack. My seat back was different than yours and mine was plastic. I loved the machine but destroyed it
each and every weekend. We honestly bent all six axles in one weekend. If you hit a bump hard enough too get air ,you risked snapping a motor mount whigh required removing the frame to reweld the mount.I sold the machine when Beehoo
got tired of fixing it under warranty and soon after they went out of bussiness. My chains were
open but a later model had them boxed in like the chain on some European bicycles. Good luck

it's posable then i may have that story mixed up from another manufacturers history.
there are plenty of cat owners hearabouts (on board) so post yer number and maybe we will see. |

MISTER Croft-Too Easily! they were 3/4 inch diameter and even with those very soft flotation tires if you got too much air they bent.Makes me appreciate how much better our machines are today. W,Philip |
