When I was a kid my uncle had an Amphicat and I was always amazed by it. Ever since I have been trying to improve on the design in my head and wondering why Honda or some other major Company hasn't made one.. Anyway, I just had a major thought. Picture this: Suspension, Roll cage, Front mounted 1200 cc engine with a Jetski style propelsion system. Possibly even a way to lift the wheels up past the bottom of the craft so you could plane it on water.

You know, I have put pontoons on an Attex before, and am working on hydrofoils for another custom built 6x6 design I am working on. Too keep it lightweight I am going without suspension but with baloon tires I hope to finish this year. Remember how the Amphicats used to be demonstrated by running a man over? Just watch the Banana Splits to see how light and maneuverable they are. The jet pump works well, like the old Hustlers and Wedges.

I don't remember the demo but I do remember my uncle and/or dad/brother chasing after it so it wouldn't run someone over when it would take off unexpectedly when the battery was dead and they would have to manually start it with the pull starter!!!

if anyone on this board gets a chance to check out
the april issue of dirt wheels they may be looking
at the future of amphibious atv's. yamaha has a prototype that is based off a waverunner and are calling it the mudrunner.it has 8 wheels which are all independently suspended.it is skid-steer and has a 1200cc 125 horsepower 4 cylinder 4-stroke under the hood. i own a max, argo and an
attex and love them all but if this yamaha prototype becomes a reality i would seriously
consider adding it to my lineup. this atv in my opinion would push max and argo to do some serious design changes as far as suspension and
power are concerned.

Yes,I recently read this very same article in a 4 wheeling magazine ( dirt wheels maybe ) It was only an artist conception from the magazine that was presented to Yamaha. This concept drawing of the 8x8 in the magazine, was to show Yamaha a vehicle that could possbiby make up for the loss of wave runner sales, since it can be used on land and water. Thats why the top of this 8x8 looks similar to a wave runner.

yea, when i saw it i snatched it up so fast i ripped the cover. if you read the whole article you will see its nothing more than a prank by dirt wheels. yamaha had nothing to do with its creation.

Yes, but did you read the article? It is a figment of imagination from the dirt wheel's staff.

i did realize that it was not in fact real but if
yamaha were smart then this is the direction they would be going in with their atv's.it is a shame when people at a magazine are more tuned into what people would like to see available than the people that are making the atv's.in the article they basically said that yamaha laughed at them which is pathetic because there isnt a 4 wheeler made that could follow any of the 6 or 8 wheelers that any of us own on this board.the joke is on them.

It doesn't look like a very practical design to me.
