I have the same sentimen as Philip...do you want it to be amphibious and float? Do you want it to be able to propel itself through the water? This would be really interesting if it was a rock crawler with 36" tires. I don't see any advantage of having the wheels turn to steer as compared to a skid steer. I guess if you want it just for something to build and toy with it will be something to do. It looks like way to many parts and that means a lot of failure points. This is just my opinion, it does show a lot of creative thought though.

What type of speeds do you want to get with it?

What is your estimated weight and what type of power are you going to need to overcome all the drivetrain drag? What are your body dimensions and how much displacement are you planning on compared to the weight?

Intresting questions,

Umm, to start things off, yes, I would like this to float. The propelsion system in the water would probably be an external drop down prop. The reason I say I don't know yet is because I haven't done the calcs for how much this thing is gonna weight as well as how much displacement in the tub I'll need.

I've got the 8 wheel steering as a novilty which is pretty much what the whole thing is. I except to max out at around 80kms/h and plan to put in a 1000cc engine in it.

Main thing is I wanted a little more speed than my prarie bobcat can handle and the supsension to go with it.

Well, I've starting building this thing.. and yes, I now plan on making it float. I was going to post pictures but there's a max upload of 75kb which is way too little to do anything with so I'll just add the link to another site that has 5 pages of treads on it.. a good read and lots of pics for anyone interested.

Frazer, you were telling me that your lower section would probably only be about 20 inches wide. With that in mind have you thought about a seating arrangement? it sounds like you won't be able to get two people side by side unless your both really skinny. I guess a front to back seating arrangement would work also 2 or 3 people in line ? Howard

Howard,

I wanted this vehicle to be able to follow a quad through a forested trail, but have all the advantages that an AATV have. So I made the width 52 inches. Another hinderance I have is that the strut towers (springs and shocks) take about 6-7 inches from both sides, making the middle a lot smaller. I'm thinking this will be a one seat machine.. unless I can get sideways seating in the back for passengers.
