I went to ODG on Thursday with our local dealer, Don Sills to pick up my new Avenger EFI. They are shipped with no oil, no bumper ring, no exhaust pipe, no seat backs etc. Picked it up from my dealer this morning (Saturday). It is beautiful and I was really happy. So was my wife, until the WRECK-ti-fire, wrecked and caught on fire! Will report back when I get back from the factory on Monday. Can you spell "disappointed", boys and girls.  |

Re. the above Avenger EFI. known as" SMOKEY". Argo felt that the problem came from the stator. Instead of replacing the wrecked rectifier they replaced the engine! We left the dealers shop in his truck towing Smokey at 3:45 A.M. Argo had my engine out by 8:30 A.M. A team headed by Marvin had the new engine in by 10:15. They checked and adjusted Everything. Set the govener. filled fluids and test drove it on their test hill area. The dealer drove a lot of miles on this deal and so did I but the service was exceptional. After a little nap ,I,m gonna break ,er in. Philip P.S. I saw a mossy oak ARGO 8 WHEELER Frontier 650---23 hp. briggs---blower on vented disc brakes-- stretched at exactly the point the 6 wheeler is riveted-- Argo Frontier Tires. Argo people, no comment! |

Roger. yup it was exciting. Man is this thing stable in the water, but it makes turning in the water a whole new challenge. Not as fast in the water as the Max iv by half. Steve will be great to see you this weekend, gonna be a big cool down! Smokey's color is a secret but I couldn't afford your "Mossy Oak". I am hoping to show up wearing Goodyear super terra grips! Don thinks they may work!

Tom, I know you do. and I beleive that you will love the ride with your new tires. I have no idea what the results of putting our max iv 26" tires on an Avenger will be but we are heading out tommorrow morning to find out! Hope for a dozen machines or more. If Steve Young comes with his Avenger and Luch comes with his Frontier we may get some side by side action pics. Regardless I will be happy to follow you across the little pond at Olean. We are back home from a 2 night camp out ride. 10 machines and 3 4-wheelers. We had a great time, no serious incidents. I was the least experienced Argo driver there but my new Avenger EFI only had to be towed once. I also got the chance to tow my friend who until now Never needed a tow. I rode with 26" Super Terra Grips on 12" rims. This thing is FAST in the water. More tests to come. W Philip Cox |

Philip finally did what I've wondered about for years.. max IV tires and wheels on the avenger. Not the softest ride, but must be interesting to see it chew up the woods. |

I dont see the advantage of the 26" over the 25"Rawhide III. There would be only a 1/2 difference in ground clearance. But the ride should be quite a difference.I would think the weight would significantly be more with the 12" wheel.The only thing would be you are putting more tire cleats on the ground at one time,as the lugs are tighter on the 26'Dico.But the lugs are taller and wider on the 25". |

Philip's AVENGER went 3 times faster in the water with the terra-grips but the ride was harsher.And I learned from him that if you blast into the water at an angle you will not sink but will take on some water...WOW; What a water entry that was!!! |

I want to weigh in on tires. I have a 2005 Avenger with the 25x11.5x9 argo tires on them, and we have had nothing but problems. The same trails we ran our Conquest and our previous Bigfoot on are tearing the sidewalls out of these tires. We have literally cut open every single tire, and in fact on one trail came out with only 2 tires still holding air (try that in a quad!). So, as a test this past weekend, we took 2 tires off the Bigfoot (25x12x9) and put them on the Avenger. Of course they fit, but more importantly they also fit in the rubber track. So, is the 25x11.5x9 a marketing ploy by Argo to buy only from them? Because they suck and I don't see why the 12" width would be a problem. So, I am going to start replacing tires 2 at a time until we have replaced them all.
FYI - we approached the dealer on the tires punctures we were getting, dropped off the Argo, and they came back with nothing to offer. Not sure what ODG's involvement was. |

Len, those 12x9 are shorter than the 11.5x9. Not sure how much but will guess an inch. Goodyear specs say 24.1 and 25.5 inches on their web site.. don't know if that's with 15 psi atv pressure or what..
you can't find the 11.5 besides the dealer? |

The difference in size is on the width. We ran a trail this weekend with 2 Bigfoot tires on the front and they look identical in height, just slightly wider. I am therefore assuming that for a tire to fit the same size rim, but be narrower, then they have use less rubber or cords to achieve that, and hence the high sidewall damage we are getting. I am picking up 2 Carlisle Stryker tires this week to give them a try out. |

I'm heading down to Copper Ridge on Saturday for the day. I'm hopefully buying a new set of tires for my RIM, and I'm really leaning toward the 22x11x8 Rawhide IIIs that I can get a deal on from RI. I was thinking about the 26" Terras, but I hear all sorts of things about the ride. That, and I don't want to spend the money to discover that their won't be enough clearance on the machine. I don't know if there was ever any modifications done to the Max IV body that the RIM doesn't have, which would make them not fit. I guess we'll see.... Regardless, I hope to make a good showing on the trail with this Two-Stroke-Titan.

Len Cater- I am new to Avengers and have no knowledge. Really sorry to hear of your tire failures. I don,t know why Argo switched sizes on the Avenger instead of staying with the tried ,tested and proven Bigfoot tire. I assumed that it had to do with not changing tires to put tracks on. Did you change tires when you put tracks on your Bigfoot?? |

LEN- I think O.D.G. had to buy bulk so many tires from GOODYEAR in that size 25/11.5/9 to use on the CENTAUR which was made before the AVENGER and the overstock of tires they had from slow sales of that machine they decided to use the same tire on the AVENGER.
The last ride we went on a total of 5 tires were lost due to sidewall damage all AVENGERS the BIGFOOTS had no problems! |

Yes,with the Bigfoot you do need to put the 22" tires on them. I STEVE may be on to something though with the Centaur. Honestly when you see the difference between what the Bigfoot Rawhide III is to the Avenger Rawhide IIIb, the difference is negligable. The bigfoot tire rode fine into the track, and with the same height should have no problems fitting as is. There is quite a bit of play with the track on the avenger. So, anyone out there getting an Avenger and running trails with rocks, try and get the dealer to switch to Bigfoot tires. I'll report back on how the Carlilse Stryker tire does (it's about $60 less a tire from the quotes we got). |

HI Folks- I have 37 hours on my new Avenger EFI.
I love it. I bent my first axle since the days of the Amphicat when I was in Ohio ,but I rode it for a day and a half,even in the water, that way. Fixed now
Two Questions--- Am I the only one with an Avenger that the hood falls off? (it is a bit of a piss off)
---- Does anybody have a way to keep the headlights in? Ever had one pop out on a hard water entry? it took soap water and 3 people to get mine back in! Now I'm afraid that it will come out again leaving a large opening on the nose!!! Any advice would be appreciated. W. Philip Cox |

Congrats on the EFI. That's quite a few hours in one month or so. As for the hood, does your hood have the single twist type, or the dual clamps on the sides. Must have dual clamps version if you don't and you can get from the dealer. Or is it the pivot pins at the windsheild? These are pressure fit and we did lose one. Recommend you pull the pin out from the main body and then glue it back in.
The lights. Just happened to us this past weekend, although I am happy to report it only took one person and no soapy water. I'm still mulling over this one since they are an odd oval shaped light. I am thinking though of a small bead of silcone under the outside lip may just do the trick, make it water tight, and fairly easy to remove if you need to replace it. |

Len-Thanks for the response. Yes,I have the very latest hood hold down system,(Two black rubber hold down strap/catches) on the front edge of the hood. My "pivot pins" at the windshield do not appear to be the problem. Neither pin has come out. You are correct,I have driven the machine quite a bit in a month, but at the Ledges event in Ohio my hood came off at least ten times, several of those times at night when it was harder to see it going to happen. It came off in the water, it came off on hills and once it came off in really bad smelling mud. I had to put it inside the back of my machine and with my friends return to camp, wash it off and bungie cord it.The hood slides to the left of the machine ever so slowly, the left rubber snap catch loosens, the hood slides off of the "pivot pins" and zoom ,,it's gone! Twice I ran it over with my own machine! No damage but it is scuffed up now. I need a way to keep it from moving to the left, it looks like it wouldn,t do that, but it does. The headlight seems ok now but if it popped out at the wrong time it could be trouble. I am willing to screw some kind of a clip to each side of the headlight but it would have to not let the light pop in or out, The silicone is absolutely worth a try but I would prefer a mechanical clip,inside and out. On the hood, I have the older model but liked the new method so actually have both. No problems. If your frame still has the hole in it to support the centre closure method, then I would suggest getting a lock pin to fit the frame hole, and then drill a hole in the top. |

Len,- My frame is minus the center hole for the old style closure. We think we have found the solution. We drilled through the area near where a windshield would fit., through the yellow body and the steel stiffener below it, just to the right of where the two metal plates are riveted to the hood. A long rivet with 4 or 5 washers on it should not allow the hood to slide to the left unless its open. Also moved the rubber hood latch about 3/4" to make it tighter.
