Hi Mitchell, There is a lot of difference between the Max II and Max IV. I'd have to know what you wanted to use the vehicle for before I could recommend one or the other. The Max II is a smaller machine in both length and width so it is slightly easier to get around in, and more "sporty". My best seller is the 16hp followed closely by the 18hp. The 23hp II is a great machine but the 18hp is plenty of power for the II, still has the internal muffler, and costs $1000 less.
The Max IV is the ultimate go anywhere ATV with the 26" tires and big engine. Again the 23hp is a good engine, but the 27hp Kawasaki makes for one bad Max. The 27hp, like the old 25hp, has the larger drive clutch to increase speed and performance. This clutch separates the best from the rest and makes the extra upgrade cost from the 23hp to 27hp easily worth the cash.

I have the 950T max 1V. For me the major desirables are big wheels, big engine and winch.
I am totally happy with he purchase, even after the import costs to Australia. The only must have in my opinion is a price quote from Fred, he was way the best deal and the help he gave me was invaluable. My 10 cents worth. rob

Mitchell,it's like any thing else, the more you spend the more the machine will do for you.Big motor ,you'll never be wondering if if you bought a small motor if you did the right thing going with the smaller motor, front&rear skid plts. are nice,o-ring chains, solid axles, big tires and how 'bout that track kit?If your interested in just hitting the trails hard get a well equiped max two.Trails and utilitarian use get a max four.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I am leaning towards a Max II. Why are 26" tires not available for a Max II?

the smaller sportyer body dosent have much clearence for the 22" tires, and wheelbase distance between axels precluds anything bigger as well,
i tryed to talk the presedent of recreatives into another body style that would give more clearence for tires as big as 26" as well as more engine size capability and more, but he just looked at me like i was off my medication?
must have bin the
"on star" 24-7 trailside asistance idea that ruined it.LOL

Seems like a Max is a lot like a Harley, changes are slow, any change is monumental, prices never go down, production is low and every body seems comfortable with that..........well,,, if your affiliated with R.I.anyway.Dave the on-star thing was kind of pushing it.

David I am so dissapointed to hear that R.I. rejected your ON_STAR idea. It's brilliant, i can,t beleive that I hadn,t thought of it! I don,t know Jay , the president, but I have met him and talked to him on 3 or 4 occassions, and I thought he would recognise opportunity when he heard it knocking. W. Philip
