Just found this wonderful site, my first message
please help

I am going to buy a brand new ATV this month I have a max dealer
about 30 miles on way and an Argo dealer about 50 miles the other
way. I want either a Max4 16hp or A basic Argo 8x8. What I am looking
for is something that will hold together and get me around in the woods, I
am 58 years old, not interested in all the speed and jumping and tearing
things up that some guys do. I just want something that will last and that I
do not have to work on all the time. To give a bit of history I bought and
still have a AMF so I know all about having to work on this older machines.

I am ready to spend my money not work on it.

So my question is?
What do you folks think?

I don't know anything about the argo's only what i have read on here. I too was looking at either the max or argo. I am not into speed either. after i investigated both carefully i chose the max IV 18hp. I didn't want to have to play with the sticks when i got in the heavy stuff to keep both sides of the wheels turning. The max is true six wheel drive.

I would go with at least the 18hp Max IV. This model comes with o-ring chain and solid splined axles which means it will last much longer. The 16hp is a bit underpowered and even more so with the 26" tires.

Scott, I don't think you would like the Argo 8x8 in the woods. It is very big and it is hard to get around in the woods. I would recommend the Max IV with at least the 18hp and 26" tires. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me and I will answer any of your questions about both machines.

Scott -

The Argo Response is a fine machine. It is only 2 feet longer than the 6-wheel Argos. How much of a difference that makes in the woods depends on how dense the trees are. We use ours to maintain a tree farm, and to help my (disabled) wife get around our property. The longer machine gives a gentler ride and is easier to steer. The extra cargo space is useful, too. With both dealers so close, have you ridden in or driven either machine?
