Chris, there are lots of riding area. The best place to find out about riding in the Rochester-Buffalo area is to call Ramona Griffin, she is the president of the Ribit Riders a 6 wheeler club. You can reach her in the evenings at 716-655-2922.

newmax, no there is no admition price per say, you can drive right in and camp out along with the other riggs, however it is a FUND RAISER and
you will have too pay to particapate in the dice run, also perhaps the timed events on sunday?(i dont remember) anyhoot plan too leave some money there.it go's too suport the volenteir fire department and in turn thay suport our sport!
as in the post above yours you should call ramona griffin or e-her at: ribitrdr@earthlink.net
also bring clothes for any season ! last april it was hot as hell and the july in 2000 was cold as hell, you cant predict humphrey's wether!
and gas! bring extra! also little coolers for food ont the trail! it can take 4 or more hours to compleat coarse depending on the people ahead of you and of coars the pace you would travel alone,(take cair with soda as loosely paked in cooler can explode)feal free if you have any more questions, but as i said ramona is part of the event's planing comity and she has all the ansers!

Anyone going to Humphrey in April? I would like to take my family and our Max IV and Max II. The weather for driving out from Vermont makes me leary. We have been twice to the July ride and have been glad we went both times. We're not worried about the weather for riding(we've been seen with our blue tarp canopy before!) Brad

You guys are talking our language now. There's nothing I like better than a mud pit. I'll bet Ramona's mud hole will be soupier than last July (Although I almost didn't make it out then!) My green Max IV likes mud and wants to bring my wife's Max II in as deep as she dares(her first trip with this machine) Brad

I am bringing a 16x16 army tent that we use in the u.p. during deer season. We shovel the snow, put a tarp down and we are in hillbilly heaven, if you have a cot bring one we have room.

Geru
Thanks for the offer, but if my wife doesn't want to sleep in the same room with me I don't think many others will either. I SNORE WAY TOO DAMN LOUD.
I also have a beautiful 6 man Cabelas geodisic that I use for hunting as well, worst case scenario I'll bring that if there will be snow on the ground so I can use my heater.
Are tracks a requirement for this ride or should most of the snow be gone?

The weather here in Western New York is very unpredictable especially in the spring. Two years ago it was warm and sunny for the April ride and quite chilly for the Jamboree in July! All I can suggest is plan for everything weather-wise. The good news for you muck lovers is that some of the lumber company land has been freshly logged and now resembles a gooey no-mans land!We have been working on the course and have added some new trail. The parking and camping area is gravelly and pretty well drained so motorhomes can be brought regardless of weather.

I just got tracks for mine this year. don't think there is a limit on snow depth. you stay right on top. maybe if you had sveral feet of real powder that might be a problem not sure. I can tell you that 2 years ago i had just the 26" tires and i got stuck all the time. anytime i went off the edge of the snowmobile trails tires would sink right in and that was it. I have not been stuck once this year. and we have over 3' of snow on the ground.

Bob is right- When any ATVer takes his machine on a snowmobile-only trail it hurts relations between groups that need to work together to get trails for all of us. Not to mention the legalities involved.

newmax-After I typed my previous post and sent it ,it dawned on me that you could have been on private trails. Please accept my apology for being presumptuous. We had a winter ride up here in western NY about a month ago and I have never done so much pushing and pulling and being pushed and pulled in my whole life. It was a blast though. We had two BFs with us one had rubber tracks and one had plastic. Each type had its strong points and weaknesses, but either was better than those of us who were on tires alone. I was able to put together an hour long video of the weekend, if anyone is interested contact me.

no problem John. that doesn't bother me. I went out again last night. we had anothe 3 inches of snow followed by rain. the snow was soft had no problem. went up some pretty big snowbanks as well. had to try out my new suspension seat. What a difference. it is a whole different ride now.

Philip-keep trying as it took me a while to figure it out, but I think everybody enjoys the pictures, or at least I do. OK, so let me see if I can help you. you type: the "code" for adding imagines, plus any so text if you'd like, then you click on the "post message", that will bring up your text and information screen, then click on the "post message" again, that will bring you to the "upload" screen, click "browse" to find your picture, open it up and click "upload". It will tell you it the picture goes through, I had some problems of the picture being to large so I had to resize it to a max of 75 kilobytes, hope this helps, Tom

I was just reading your post about riding in the Prattsburgh area. there are quite a few trails or seasonal roads available. i would certainly be up for a ride. My son-in-law also has a mxaIV.
On one of the post Tim was looking at MAX and Argo's. If you have seen what we have done with our Max machines, it would elimate the Argo family.

I'm with you, Copper Ridge has some great running. I hope we have big turnout this year. I know gas is getting high, but what a great bunch of people to be with.I wish I'd had more notice about the April ride. I'm just not ready for it. See all of you in July. Larry (Sti-Me)

BIGSWILL,thanks for the info on modena, our club had a ride there this year.I didn't attend,i've been working out of town since feb..you should join ribit's riders(6x6 club),it's only $12 to $15 a year. It's worth it just to keep posted on rides. We are in western NY.i Couldn't give you the past or present e-mail's of the presidents, they had some change to to them and I had no response from them( I think they given me up for dead). But i'm sure some will jump on the postings and give you that info.

According to an Argo dealer near me there are several thousand acres available for riding in the Marion NY area. That would be half way between Rochester and Syracuse.

Bayrat,
I'd be interested in finding out about this riding area. I thought the majority of the area around Marion was private land. If there is an established trail system, that would be very interesting. What is the name of the Argo Dealer? Oddly, some of these trail systems don't allow amphibs due to width restrictions, even though our overall impact is much less than a bunch of quads or dirtbikes.

Mike

I believe that the property that Bayrat is refering to is the TrailPass trail that I was mentioning in my previous post....Whispering Pines, in Lyons, NY. You can buy a yearly TrailPass to ride there, or you can pay to ride by the day. It is excellent riding there, with a wide range of terrain. Call me if you want to know more about it!

Hey ....did you see my post about the clubs? I am working with ARGO and we are in the process of uniting AATV owners internationally by setting up a series of AATV clubs. You interested? Where are you from?

Also....check out my post on ATV ride, bonfire ,wild exotic animals....we have a cool event coming up this weekend. I would like to get some of you guys to attend! I could use all the driving tips that I can get!!!

Lee Ann,

I am sure you are a better recreational ATV driver than me as I have only used the more commercial end of them, and they did not float. That is how I learned to swim..the hard way.

I have been toying with the idea of buying one, so I don't own as of yet. I have a four wheeler I use around my few acres to do chores. I have been in contact with Ed for Argo pricing as well as a dealer on this board for Max. Since I am in NY, it seemed reasonable to seek out the attributes of something built here.

I doubt I would spend much time playing with it although it would probably be enjoyable. Most of my time is committed to the boat (could you guess?) and my property.

Keep me posted though, if I purchase a machine at some point I may find time to play. I am in northern Wayne County.

I will check out your post on the events. Thanks for all the information! I hope Ed sells a couple of machines for all his effort.

Hello! To answer your question, Whispering Pines is in Lyons, New York. It is just a few miles off the NYS thruway heading west. Not too far from Syracuse. There is all kinds of riding there, including rolling fields, hills, rock climbs,a man made mountain, woops filled with water and lots of mud.:-) You can camp there and there is a lodge that sleeps 12 loft style. I am in the process of putting together an event there for the AATVs and ATVs. It will coinside with Argos national openhouse. I will be meeting with Charlie, the owner of Whispering Pines tomorrow to discuss the details. The tenative date is set for Saturday May 13. I will make a post with all the details as soon as I have them. It should be in a couple of days. In the meantime, feel free to email me or call me if you have any ideas for the event. I was thinking of a scavenger hunt or poker run. We will have Argo demo rides and prizes. Depending on how many people are coming, we could have a "pot luck" picnic in the pavillion, or have the event catered. Anyone interested????

Let me know!

The ride at Whispering Pines sounds like a lot of fun, but a few questions arise after viewing their TrailPass Site.
What is the total cost for the ride? The Whispering Pines site says that you need to have a TrailPass or purchase a day pass ($25.00 for the day pass) plus $5.00 per day for parking, plus a once annual inspection fee of $10.00. I'm a bit concerned about the inspection, especially with the decibel limitations on machines. My older two-stroke Attex is not necessarily the quietest machine on the trails, and I'm worried that because of the many restrictions put on the property, I may be turned away. I understand the ongoing battles in many parts of New York state (and others) with respect to noise, safety, etc., but I think it's important to get an idea of what machines may be restricted from the property. It would be unfortunate for someone to travel several hours, and then be turned away because their 1970s 6x6 didn't have a spark arrestor.

So, I guess the questions would be:
*What is the total cost for the May 13th Ride?
*What restrictions can we expect with regard to two-stroke/ four-stroke machines?

It's good to see a central NY ride!

Would that be $25 for the machine or per person?$5 a day parking? Can't camp over night?'kinda expensive for a day trip if you have to drive over 150 miles one way

Hey Guys

Sorry to take so long to get the information back to you! The cost for the poker run is 15.00 per person. You have to have either a day pass or a Yearly pass to ride at Whispering Pines. The day pass (25.00) is for the machine. Riders are free, unless they want to draw a poker hand! (The yearly TrailPass is 75.00 per year) The day of the event there will be NO parking fee, registration fee or decibel readings. There are the requirements that the town has placed on the landowner of the property for him to operate and a normal daily basis. It is a little different when we have an event!

I am sending a flyer to the owner of this site to have the event posted and you can also see it a www.trailpass.com

Do come out for the day! It will be a lot of fun!!

Call me or email me if you have any questions. Let me kn w if you think that you are coming! Argo from Canada will be there giving demos on the 2006 machines and we will be having a chicken BBQ. I need to know how much chicken to order!!!(chicken dinner will be 7.50)

Call Whispering Pines if you want to know more about the camping or about the lodge! 315-946-6170

Tim...
As far as requirements, insurance and registration are required to ride in NY.....however we will NOT be asking for this informaton at registration. You will need to wear a helmet out on the trails.

Camping is 10.00 per night, 20.00 for electric site.

The chicken BBQ diner is 7.50 per person if you would like to have it.
