Hey this is just an update. I just found out today that the Mahwah and NY police have shut down the riding area off 287 and 87 in NY/NJ.

This really sucks. It was the first chance that I had to get up there and it was closed off. Even had a cop sitting there stopping people.

Well it looks like the only area I know of around here is in Oakland. Not that big though. Anybody else know anything in Northern NJ?

I need alot more riding expirence. i get stuck often in the snow. i can't go any where near where my neighbor can go with his 4 wheeler. as soon as i sink in i'm all done. he just seems to paddle through. even though he is bottoming out. mine allways pulls to one side. whichever side sinks in and then im stuck

newmax I have an ARGO BIGFOOT..
It seems your not the only one who has that problem. I think we all do untill we learn how to drive these 6x6s... I too get stuck,, was quite often and I got realy thrusted with it at first... but I have almost 60 hrs on my mechine and have had it only 5 weeks. I have learned that driving the 6 wheeler is conpletely different instead of speed like the 4 wheeler we must go slow and use traction... Other then that I would say to ask Brandon he seems to be the most experienced in here so far... I wish I could tell you more ... but so far I am as lost as you... sorry

lilchief, i am learning that. I went out today and was crossing a field on snowmobile trails. the snow is getting soft so i am starting to sink in a little. as soon as one side started to sink in i kept pulling on the other stick a liitle to keep from being pulled in and kept the throttle on. Then i let off the throttle and it went perfect. What a difference. I'll get it

yes you will. AS I have been told once you learn how to use the sticks, Mobility is easy .... I find it hard to keep tracksion going up a hill in the snow my 6x6 tends to slide to one side and then the other. then I loose tracksion and it is back to doing it again. I haven't had any time to play in the mud yet we are still snowed in up here in Maine.. I love to go through mud fast and throw up roosters but I see this is not going to happen unless I turn my back two tires around so the v is pointing down...but then i loose momentum in water.... I don't know how I will get the tracksion I want and mobility in water and still be ablt to sling mud at the 4x4 who I know are going to do this to me with out a doubt. considering I have the only 6x6 in 50 miles of me that I know of...
Does anyone have any susjections on how to throw mud and keep the tractsion and mobilit. on a 6x6? Need info....

hotrod,
the badlands is 3 hours south west of you in attica indiana and my personal favorite place to ride is hespin acres in laurel indiana approximaitly 3 hours south of you. hespin acres web address is www.motocrosspark.com if you want to check it out. I am not sure of the badlands web address. you will want to have a very reliable machine at these parks and you should be a well experienced driver if you go to hespin acres. the hills are crazy their.

Great Idea.
However..need a discussion heading of states...and under each state, people can list...I am in Reno.
Checking out the trails used by the settlers in 1850...40 Mile Desert and Black Rock Desert. as well as the routes of Fremont....had to abandon a cannon, which ended up in Virginia City... I got a n Argo Conquest with tracks...making tracks in the snow....The Local Contact, until a club forms or a web listing gets developed is Don at Wilbur's Knife and Argo in Carson City, NV. Lets make an effort to get something going as we are in the BEST Argo land in the nation....

The answer to the snow is tracking it. Makes huge difference. Been riding for 15 years now and wondering what WA state has to offer for 6 x 6 get togethers.

You know...it's rather odd that when we first buy an ATV, we never consider the possibility that we would be the only ones that have one in our area. I see so many people looking for fellow ATV riders that it looks like a fairly common problem. I'm sure that locale plays a big part in it though...like if you live in states where hunting is popular or in western states where there is lots of open land...(unposted). But here in the East it seems our numbers are finite...so many of us have no one to ride with. That takes a lot of the fun out of it. Sharing a ride with a fellow four wheeler is great not only for the company he provides but also the safety factor you would share. Well, anyone looking to ride on the sunny beaches of Northern Florida...get in touch. Al.

St Joe State Park, MO

I went to St. Joe State park today, December 30, 2004. I had the only 6x6 in the park, at least I did not see any others. There were a lot of motorcycles and 4 wheel atvs. People were friendly and waving and giving way. The terrain was firm and fairly hard packed with some soft dry sand in other areas. The trails were easily wide enough to drive along without having to skid between trees. The trails had some rocky spots and some had dead fall on them. Easily navigated by going slow. I spent about half the time there on the trails. I stayed on the less steep ones since I had my wife with me.

There were a couple of deep muddy spots and we were leaving ruts about five inches deep but crwaled through no problems. A couple of long deeper holes were full of water and we bounced along without ever coming to a full swim.

Entry fee of $3 was per machine and helmets and a flag were required.

It was a nice little day trip

If you live close to there or at least in MO then you need to try out Deepwater. That place is 100 times better and no cost or rules. Can't beat the a night ride out there.

I'd like to try Deepwater too. I am in Southern Illinois and the place by me is only open on the weekend unless a person has a family membership. So I am just checking out new places. I am game to go about anywhere. I'll look into Deepwater for a trip in the near future. My days are tied up with classes Monday through Saturday so I can only get away on Sundays after the spring semester starts.

Wetsu, When I head over there I'll have to take a week or several days because of the distance and my schedule for the next couple of months only leaves me with one day off a week. So I'd have to go in march during spring break or at the end of the spring semester.

I spent the day riding at Little Egypt, leormc.com I thought they were closed when I arrived because there were no trailers or vehicles in the lot. Fortunately they were open so I went in and did between 12 and fifteen miles of trail riding. Later in the day I ran into a couple of quads and a couple of motorcycles. It was exteremly wet and muddy so there were several hills I could not climb. The clay mud kept packing the tires and I couldn't spin them fast enough to clean them out. So I backed down and found alternate ways around the bigger slick hills on the trail. I had a very nice large buck jump the trail about 10 feet in front of me. A couple of miles later I crested a hill and there was a couple of turkey on the trail. I stopped and 12 more came out of the brush on the left and crossed the trail to the right. They then took flight and flew about fifty yards over a strip pit. They soon disappeared into the under brush. My wife drove for a couple of miles while I would get out and shoot video. I couldn't walk down the trails or up any inclnes because of the mud so I gave up on that idea. She was doing well working through the trees and staying out of the deep ruts but ended up boiling the brake fluid so she lost the left brake and got the master cylinder piston stuck in on the right brake. So we let the brakes cool down but couldn't get the right brake piston back out so we called it a day and I drove as best I could back to the parking area. I thought she had rode about as much as she wanted but she was upset and wanted to ride some more. We still had a few more hours of day light so we loaded up went home and I fixed the brakes. During the ride I took her and showed her where I flipped it the last time I was there. My ruts and gouges were still there along with glass from the windshield. This time I looked it over more closely and it was much steeper than I had thought and about half way down there was a 3 foot vertical section that I had not seen before.

We had a very good safe ride without getting into the difficult areas. I'd still like to set up a group ride at Little Egypt.

For you 6x6 owners in Nevada, Tonopah Nevada had a lot of good riding areas lots of endless trails to explore, i used to live there in the 80's i had an Amphicat at the time, in May Tonopah has Jim Butler days there's a parade and other stuff going on, that might be a good time for a 6x6 get together for a ride.

Well, since I did not see my name listed in:

"owners by state"

I thought I,d better do an update.I,m still looking for any one with an amphib to ride with me in Shreveport,Louisiana, that lives in a state nearby. I have a great place to ride in Shreveport with over 2000 acres and the kind of trails that make for some really great amphib riding. Trails through Swampy land, low land that always hold some water, across lots of creek crossings, and plenty of long muddy jeep trails. Across the state line in Texas, are two very large ATV parks. Fun Wheeler Park is the biggest one. The major ATV magazines have a write up about this place every year. There is also a swamp run each year,on state owned land, thats only open for this event. The company named "High Lifter" sponsers this event. They make some very aggressive ATV tires! They are also in Shreveport. The swamp run event is also in Lousiana, about 80 miles from Shreveport,Louisiana where I live. I,d love to get some Amphib riders to go with me to this yearly event.

Philip, I did just that, thank you. What I'd like to know is, are there any organized rides in the southern Calif area? I know about the Rubicon, that's 500 miles north of me. Although I do own some property up between Sacramento and Tahoe that I will one day explore that option. (not retired quite yet).
