Review of Little Egypt Off Road Motorcycle Club, Crab Orchard, IL
(7 miles east of Marion, IL in Southern Illinois.)
April 2, 2006
I took the Max to Little Egypt Off Road Motorcycle Club this afternoon to do some trail riding.
The area is amphibious ATV friendly even though the name would imply it is for motorcycles and quads only.
The club is located seven miles East of Marion IL on Illinois Route 13. The park consists of 700+ acres of area to ride. There are main trails and a lot of side trails. The entire park is fenced in so a person cannot get off the property. There are some distinct features that make getting lost almost impossible. Like I said there is a fence surrounding the property. There is also an a blacktop road running from the west to east end of the park so a person can travel either North or South and hit the road then take the road in to the main parking area. There are also a couple of cinder and dirt roads that run north and south. Before the addition of new acreage the park diameter was a little over six miles. With the new addition of property the boundary has doubled. I road today and stayed on the main trail along the boundary fence and after three hours decided to head for home. The weather was turning bad with storms on the way. One area along the fence was in a low area and the fence was entirely submerged. This proved to be an obstacle for the quads on the trail. It was no big deal for the Max. There were several steep hills along the trail and a lot of large rocks and boulders that made navigating interesting. There were some hills that looked a bit steep for me to try since I had a passenger. So I stayed off them. There are also some strip pits to swim through. I stayed out of them at my passengers request.
Hours of operation and admission requirements:
They open at 8:00 a.m. weekends and major weekend holidays.
They offer two types of memberships. They have day members and full members.
Day Use fees:
$10 per day for riders over 13.
$5 per day for riders 12 and under
$3 per day for non-riders
Full Membership packages are available. Check at the clubhouse for details.
Rider Requirements:
Helmets required at all times.
IL DNR sticker required ($11 annually)
Signed release waiver must be on file at club.

Marion IL has a large supply of restaurants and lodging establishments. The Shawnee National Forest is nearby as well as Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. |

Thanks for the review Jerry. I was just thinking about heading down there next weekend maybe. Going to have to see if there are any other plans.

Chuck,
I went back to Little Egypt today and rode for three hours. I went on a few trails that I have not been on in the past. They were actually very difficult to navigate. Lots of narrow ridges on top of spurs then sharp turns with steep drop offs down in the draws. There were several hills I couldn't get up. I went into three of the strip pit lakes. A couple of them were very long so I turned around before getting to the end of them. There is a fourth one but I couldn't find a way to get to it. |

Chuck and I are going to meet at LEOR this Sunday and do some riding. If anyone wants to join us they are welcome. I know it is short notice but maybe someone can get away for the day. |

Met up with Jerry at LEOR yesterday. Had a blast, we couldn't find Jerry when we got there, so we went out exploring a little bit about 40 min later we decide to head back to the parking area, go out to main road, and the argo was pulling to the right really bad. So I mention that we need to check the tires when we get back to the trailer. The right side all looked fine when my wife told me we had the front one on the left off the bead.
So then we limp back to the trailer as a 5 wheeler.
Jerry was waiting at the club house when we got back. So after fixing my tire, we went ridding.
Up to this point most my riding has been done with 4 wheelers, which is fun.
However I think it was even more fun riding with another 6x6.
We weren't the slow one lagging behind the group.
