Do you have any pictures of this ARGO? Was supersport the model? I have a MAGNUM but I didn't know their was a super sport and if you have any pics, please post them or e-mail them to me at the above address.

Well The engine that I put in it is a CCW/KEC 440/21. I do not know if is the stock engine or not it all mounts and looks very stock to me.But The engine is claimed at 40hp So I doubt that it is the stock engine.The transmisson says .282.5ss
the serial number is ss341. and the model number is supersport all one word and Thats about all I know. I wish that I could tell you how well It drives but I am waiting for a stupid little 1.95 part for the tillotson HD carb that It has.

Scott or Damen. With this much hp, is their more power than speed? Also, isn't too much speed very dangerous in an argo (chains breaking, etc)

At full throttle last weekend, my clutch broke. The front one, under the exhaust cracked and a huge chunk of metal smashed the back of the oil temp gauge, broke it, the gauge shot to maximul, the oil light came on and the entire vehiles ground to a halt. If the hood wasn't on, I would have a huge gash on my face or neck. So wouldn't it be better to have it geared so that the power is being used in other ways, not speed?

the wind in your face and the trail ziping by you with athority can be adicting!
so maybe damon needs a blast sheild to protect him but he need not chaing that buggys gearing,
an argo with "ENOPH POWER" is a great find indeed!

I know that without traction, it is useless but at what point does power overtake speed and vice versa. I have heard of people changing the gearing for more power but how does this power help. I know the wind and trail flying by is fun, but if you have more power for pulling, etc, how is this done and also, don't you still need power to have speed? I have roaly confused myself now and If anyone actually understands what the hell i am trying to get at, please explain.

sorry to hear about your clutch.good thing you were not hurt.I just got the last part today that i was waiting for,I slaped it on in about 5 minutes and went out for the first time. so far everything is working great.it defently has "ENOPH POWER" With as much as it has i will defently be keeping an eye on the parts. so far the power to gearing is just right when I have it in low it climbs great and runs just about right for normal trail riding.high is just right for getting people to say "hey what was that 6 wheeled blur"!

you own a good example of power and speed
your gearbox is the same,
you have a low gear that afords you more tork and controle when thats what you want,
and then theres times when you need speed,
the only diference is that a 2 stroke can turn thousends of rpm's more,

a 20 hp 4 stroke has plenty of tork whereas a 20 hp 2 stroke dose not,
but we are not talking about a 20 hp 2 stroke, heh heh heh!
yes im a big 440cc 2-stroke twin fan! 40 hp is great!
it'l push it up too the high reves ok,
but still has ENOPH tork at low reves to do the job,
they aint quiet, theyr not fuel efficient, but they are FUN.

I think I finally understand it. Damen's ARGO gives him power where he need it whether or not it is in high speed or high power. Thanks for the explanation.

Damen, in your e-mail, you said that the gas tank cracked and the gas started coming out. How long did you have it in the sun? I take it the tank is not hdpe (High Density Polyethelene) or is it? How much is a new tank? You may want to take a pressure sprayer and clean out the entire engine compartment then drain it before running it, Gas, sparks, don't mix!

Well it sat in the sun for about 8 hours. But the tank was kinda dryed out from sitting in the body in the elements before i recived the argo.So all it took was a couple hours of sun with gas in the tank.to expand it enough to crack it would have been fine if it was vented but because of my fuel pump setup the tank is slightly pressurized when the engine is running so the tank cannot be vented.Yes it was a hdpe tank.I got lucky and happend to walk by it and smelled gas before it leaked out all the gas.but today when i took it out the tank had cracked all the way across the bottom. I have not figured out why though there was no gas cap on it so it could not have cracked because of pressure plus the crack in it.I called the closest argo dealership to me and the woman that I talked to said that it would only be 127.38 for a brand new factory tank.

I also asked about if they could identify the year
of the argo and got a very very BIG suprise.The supersport was a very special model. That was only made from 1972 to 1975 and get this They only made 50 of them a summer. They were made for rally racing.they said CCW engine is the factory engine and acording to the argo dealership there were only about 150 to 200 of the supersport model made.

Acording to argo the supersport had a white interior and snap on cover for the rear that was also white And the body had a racing strip on it

damen, yours was verry likly older than the ones that first had hdpe, most of the old ones had another plastic that dose not last, your new hdpe tank should last forever,

Damen,
Yes, your Argo is definitely an early 1970's model. I have a 1974 standard model 6x6, that my uncle purchased new in June 1974. I remember we looked at the super sport model and he chose the standard. The only real difference was the 440cc engine over the 399cc engine (standard), the cockpit guages and the pricetag (and yes, it was faster) .
Some observations from your photo...You have the original 3 bolt wheels and Goodyear "Run-a-Muk" tires (very rare to be in such good condition). The backrest looks to be a replacement (originals were very short and virtually useless). I don't remember snap-on vinyl covers (but that was 28 years ago).
Most of the engine/carb/clutch parts are available from vintage snowmobile parts suppliers, they (ARGO) used snowmobile engines back then (I seem to remember ARGO snowmobiles marketed for a couple of years). The biggest problem with the ARGO's of that era was engine overheating, and some models included an air scoop to improve this condition. Yours looks to be a very well cared-for older machine, keep it running, keep it right-side up and you'll enjoy it for years to come.

Damen, Take John's advice very seriously about keeping it right side up. I have been there, and just let me say, f*%$#)@ painful!Because I had the seatbelt on, i couldn't move and in addition, the weight of the vehicle was pinning me down and if it hadn't been for the seat back, I probably would be dead. (NO EXAGERATION WHATSOEVER!) I was incredably lucky to come out of it with a gash in my knee, and a badly bruised bone. My sister and her friend came out with a few bad scrapes on their legs but other than that, they were fine. They were at least able to get out of the flipped machine while I could only wait for help while they flagged someone down after what seemed like seconds or hours, not sure which.

The Moral, keep it right side up!!! Take turns on hard ground slowly especially a paved road. The vehicle bounces with those runnasuck tires and they flutter as the catch. It is enough to jump it.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I did not write for a while I have been very busy (new job).John thanks for info on my argo.It is now a very well cared for argo.When i recived it from my grandpa it was stren across the nevada desert.Do you know how long it takes to pick up an intire argo that was fully and i mean fully disasimbled in the sand.it only took me a week to get it moving around again.Lucky it was all there! David I defently take everones advice about keeping the right side up.I just had to remove the engine because one cylnder was not fireing got lucky it needed a new point. so i am putting the engine back in very soon. it was running very well on one cylnder.it should now fly!!

Your obviously very knowledgable when it comes to diagnosing problems with your machine. I wouldn't have been able to figure that out if it hit me in the head!! I definatly wouldn't have been able to take it all apart and fix it.

Hey everyone,
I got my argo running on both cylnders.but today I had a little major problem with it my driver clutch.came apart.Luckly I was not harmed.But unfortunitly the cluth was all the little fingers came out of the side of the clutch .So now I have to find a new clutch housing! oh joy! just cause I have a million other things that need to be fixed.
