has anybody tried those home Powder coating kits? Does this type of finish hold up better than a good paint job? Most of the frames I've seen have been pretty rusy & I was wondering if this would hold up over the years.

powder coating kits are available from eastwood at a fair price.these look like quality units that include gun, power source, powder and instructions.powder coat is a very hard surface that resists chiping but is easily scratched.www.eastwoodcompany.com

Powder coating also requires an oven large enough to put the part in. The part has to be perfectly clean before hand. Pressure washing does not count. It must be thoroughly degreased.

I am a 3M employee and they make an incredible undercoating that you apply right out of a standard spray can.It can be bought at most automotive stores. I used this on the inside of my jigger on all the metel parts as well as the fiberglass insides. You can spill anything an it won't affect the undercoating.

Greg, What is the product called and what prep does it require. I am looking for something to minimize the maintenance on my steel trailer.
Thanks.

It is called undercoat. It can be purchased from most automotive stores/ walmart. They use it on the underside of cars for the frames. It is simply applied by a spray can to a clean surface. It dries a flat black and seals everything. Gas and oil will not penitrate the coating.
