Hi!
I just finished restoring a Max II 16HP that sat buried in a barn for 7+ years. I got a good deal on it, but spent more on parts than anticipated (isn't that always the way?). I am ver happy with it now, it runs great! The only thing remaining is the gas tank; I've been running on a temporary one because the previous owner 'liberated' the original for another project...he thinks it got sold with the project. It's the only thing I haven't been able to bring myself to buy new...seems like a lot of money. Does anyone have a used one or a lead to a manufacturer of something similiar for reasonable money? I can get an aluminum one made for about $50 less than a new one, but that's still over $100.
Thanks! -Gerry}

Gerry, I can't remember the exact Diameter of the Max 2 gas tank I remeoved mine once. If you get a poly tank before you mount it make absolutely sure there aren't any plastic shavings left in it that could work their way into the fuel line!
They have round Poly & Aluminum Tanks in the issue's of Hot VW magazine that I get, they have a round 8 x 30 or 33 for 45.00 and the gas cap is 8 dollars S.S. Straps are 34.00 chrome are 26.00
The # to P.C.U. is 951-738-8380 you might find some other VW or Sandrail Magazine's who have the same tanks Good Luck

Gerry, I forgot to tell you that most of the round tanks will probably have fill holes on one side of the tank but I have seen them with fill holes in the center.

Gerry, Have you tried calling Richard to see if he has an old take off in stock? He may be able to help you with a direct fit piece.
