How should I best repair the following splits in the bathtub?

-One suggestion was to sandwich the split inside and out with 2 metal plates riveted together (sealed with silicone sealant between the body and the plate). What thickness of metal is best to allow for body flex, and is aluminium or steel best (bearing in mind steel rusting may reduce the watertightness of the seal).

-Has anyone had any success with repairing the polyethylene e.g. with heat or adhesives?

-Are the polyethylene skid plates sold by Argo robust enough?

I want the vehicle to be amphibious again if poss.

HOLES:
A) 1 longitudinal split in floor under driver's feet (14 inches long)
B) 1 lateral split in floor at front of engine bay, 10 inches long (where 'boat front' angles up from floor pan)
C) Numerous small rivet holes

yah there skid plates are super!
but you need to ask them directly for info on what will fit if any are available.
but best fixes for polyethilin are welding it with a plastic welder or i prefer to use a 100 whatt soldering iron and the back of a spoon to instanly cool the plastic if i get to much melted at one time.
after you knit it all back together -
(keeping in mind any filler you need must be of a like matireal)
-you just scrape sideways across weld with knife to shave the weld down smooth, presto your done!
then if you are so inclined you can pop rivet aditianal layer over the area you need to protect as a skid plate if you can find the nesesary polyethiline sheet stock, maybe richard clark could cut something apropreat from a partial machine he might have or maybe there may be some place localy that supplys poyethiline that you might be able to find, do a google serch or something, posably O.D.G. can help you there also.
but yes defanatly weld the hull splits and old pop rivet holes too.
if your argo was the old type A.B.S. plastic id have the repair kits for it,
but polyetheline welds up well.
