I just acquired an old 4x4 PUG(no idea how old -- has the white fiberglass front body)) -- articulated, Briggs & Stratton engine, dump box -- all works. Any idea where I can find a manual for it?

There is a guy in Bruce Wisconsin where that Pug was built. His name is Bob Keith. If you search this message board for the word "articulated" you should find one of my previous posts with his phone number.

We are also looking for a part for an old 4x4 PUG. I'm new at message boards and don't know much about how they work. I couldn't find any way to search this message board, so am typing a new message. We also would like to know how to get in touch with someone who could help us find parts for an old PUG(also no idea how old -- also white fiberglass front body).

WARNING:

I thought my Pug was the most stable thing in the world to drive. I was driving off camber on a trail and hit somthing with the upper side front wheel and the thing rolled over without warning. These machines definately need some sort of roll over protection and seat belts. It rolled at a very slow speed and took me completely by surpise. It landed on top of me and gave me some good brush burns. After a week of walking crooked, I'm fine now. Once I finish the roll cage for the Attex, the Pug is next in line.

The Pug is not as stable as it appears.

They are also very unstable climbing. Years ago when I had mine (1968?), I was trying to haul some salt to a friend's cattle in the mountains and it reared up (just like a horse) and tipped straight over backwards (I had the blocks tied down in the front of the cargo area). The only damage was to the windshield as both I and my passenger where thrown clear of the machine, but if it hadn't had its fall broken by a tree and had rolled to the bottom of the hill (mountain), I don't think there would have been much left.

As far as I am concerned the only machine that should be used in steep terrain is a skidsteer. This weekend, I watched a Polaris 500 sportsman 4x4 come over on top of my "new addition" son-in-law. Thank goodness he only has a lot of scrapes and bruises, but we had one hell of a time getting his battered and broken machine down about 1/2 mile of extremely steep, littered with down timber, mountain side. He bent his handle bars, broke off his brake handle and tore up his electric 4 wheel drive control (with no brakes and no 4 wheel drive is was something coming off the mountain). I have a new intensity about safety and am wondering if I really should be going so far off the beaten path "just because I can". The Polaris did better than I expected, but we should have never had it where we did. When things go wrong and you have a difficult drive to get out, it makes you ponder your choice of entertainment.

Thanks for the name and phone number. We're looking for a centrifical(sp?) clutch for the belt drive on the motor. The original part has the name Salsbury Corp. on it.

What is wrong with the clutch on your Pug? When I bought mine, the clutch needed cleaned and lubricated and also the belt was way too loose. Some cleaning, lubrication and a new belt has it back to running great. I had to make sure I gought the correct belt since there is almost no adjustment for it. Also, make sure you get the governer and mixture to get the thing to idle as low as possible or the transmission will grind going inot gear.
