What is the factory width on the drive belt on a chapperal with a 295 jlo and a t20? And need some help with the wiring of the charging system on the same machine, just got a bucket of what is suppose to be some of the parts for the electrical system but heck i got no clue, the machine runs ok but the 2 yellow wires coming outa the machine were cut and no parts or ideas, heard it needed a rectifyer, whats does that part look like for this model? There was also a peice that has two yellow wires coming out of it with a label that says generator, and theres a fuse in the middle or it and one wire coming out of the other end labeled +battery...surely theres more to it than that!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Oh yeah one other thing, when i was changing the t20 fluid got about 3 quarts of what smelled like burnt 80w90 gear oil!!!!!!! drained it best i could and replaced it with the quart of dextron, wondering what kinda problems that caused or will cause me in the future??????? Some luck, huh? Thanks again

that lil finned aluminum box with the fuze and 2 yelow wires + 1 wire labled batery sounds like the rectifyer alright, at least it was labled for you,
i hope the rest of the bucket is as easy to identify

Looking to buy a Scrambler all stock in good condition with tracks. Any owners out there or opinions about the machine. Never had any experiance with these machines, will be using it for ice fishing and hunting not much else. Any info would be apreciated.

The gear lube won't hurt anything in the T-20. I have one right now just like the one you describe. Overfilled with 80w90. It was taken apart because an oil seal got tore up by a nut that fell between the sprocket and seal. It was given to me to reassemble after a bobcat dealer tore everything apart and threw it in a box. I inspected everything and all gears, bearings, and drums are perfect. I'll put it back together with new seals and it will be like new. It is from an early 70's Max II.

Do not trust everthing you read. Gear lube WILL hurt a T-20
The use ATF, Gear lub will ruin the band linnings
Any person who know anything about T-20 know this, even
new MAX dealers should know. To coin his old saying
"he should have known"

Your best bet is to take it apart and clean bands in HOT
soap water many times, and hope for the best.

Mike, I know you don't like to agree with me but I'll meet you in the middle on this one. Gear lube is not ideal for the T-20 and that's why you are supposted to use ATF. The tranny I have now that ran gear lube is apart on the bench and I can inspect the lining. It is all good and probably didn't have much run time with the gear lube. If the lining is not already tore off, cleaning the bands like you said or just running in ATF will save the bands. What are the chances of an old 6x6 having lots of hours on it? The only hours they get is those sitting in the barn, broke down.

I have also been told by R. Clark that the reason one of my T-20s was ruined was because a prevoius owner filled it with motor oil and not DexronIII transmission fluid.

You must take your trans apart and either replace bands or try to clean
them good. I too bought a MAX IV that was full of oil, not ATF. I changed
and installed ATF worked OK for a while, then the trans broke, upon sending
it in for repair I was told that band linning had came off because oil softened the
glue, then material came off, then steel bands ate two drums up, thankfully Mr Clark
had drums at a good price.

Take the tranny apart to be on the safe side like these guys say. I wouldn't think gear lube could damage the lining so bad after seeing this tranny run for years with it.

Guess Ill take it apart and let you all know...Thanks for all the replys..and sorry for causing any arguments between you guys..

One more question..the drive belt that was on it is only about 5/8 inch wide, looks like it should be wider..it has a Dayco number on it..GTS 607 ... Does this sound like the right belt, is it just worn that bad???
