hi i have a late 80's argo with a 17horse kohler.i realy liked my machine until the engine stoped working right. now im considering installing a new motor. also im wondering if i can run tracks on this machine or if i would need to do alot of extensive modifications. it has the older axles with the shear pins "damn i hate those things" and no bearing extensions.how expensive would it be to swap to the splined axles. would i be better off to sell it off and get a newer one or tough it out?

Those damned shear pin axles are crap. I remember one of our old argos-very faintly, but we were on a friends dock and the axles got the splits, it took 20 minutes to back it off and get home--should have been a 3 minute drive.

We ran tracks on ours but I don't know what hp it was. It had the crap pin axles and the tracks were fine. I wouldn't go with the super tracks though as they suck power like hell and you don't have much. I would also be very careful about terrain and tracks with weak axles. Take obstacles very slow.
