My friend recently bought a 38 HP diesel from a guy that had yard tractors in a shop that burned up.

My friend bought this 38 Hp three cylinder diesel motor for $600. He offered it to me,,to see if I would like to install it in my Max IV 900T.

But,,,I was afraid the weight of the cast iron diesel motor would ofset my power to weight ratio,,,and would also increase the PSI ratio of my wheels as well.

Thanks David. Its just a thought but I was thinking of a small 2 cylinder 20-24 horse diesel such as a yanmar, these produce much more tourge than the briggs or kholers. I will post the weight of these in as soon as I get it. My thought is that because of the higher tourge at lower rpm,s along with better fuel economy and longer life it would be a perfect match. On the other hand most new diesel engines are going to be expensive ($600 is cheap)

Jesse,,

Yes,,$600 is very cheap for a three cylinder diesel. It was used,,but, in very good condition before the fire destroyed the shop, that the man had his yard tractors in.

I dont know how much it weighs,,but,,I,m sure with its cast iron block,,it would weigh a lot more than the 25 HP kolier motor I have in my Max IV now.

I was mainly interested in the higher torque output this diesel motor would put out. I would like to install some 27 inch Vampires if I had this motor.

David S., How are you getting along with your 900T now that you have had it for a while? I'm pretty sure you have engine enough to run any tire that will fit your machine. Be sure to measure the diameter of whatever tire you try and make sure there is clearance. The new Max IV body appears to sit up higher and will probably take a bigger tire than the old style.

( Fred )
At the present time,,I have not had the chance to ride my Max IV yet,,because it is still at my friends shop.

I am well aware of how it does ride though, (very hard and rough ) I did get the chance to ride a local dealer Max IV demo,,and this is the main reason why I am having modification done to my Max

I am now having my friend install some custom suspension to my front seat.

Shortly after I bought it from the factory,,I had my handy friend take it his shop to have the many modifications I wanted done.

He works at the General Motors truck plant
that I do,,and we both have been working a lot of over time,,so he only gets to work on my Max IV when he is able to.

He is a very meticulous guy when it comes to doing anything. He is half way through with most of the modifications I wanted done to my Max IV.

I have seen some of his fabrication work,,and it is outstanding. I know this is how my Max will look when he is through with it.
