Hey fellas,
I just walked a mile and a half home from riding on my Max IV. I bought it used about a year ago and I love the thing to death, but we have had to do a lot of repairs, mainly because of the previous owners I guess, although it looks to be in very good shape. Well, stupid me, during all of the repairs I awalys negelected to check the tranny fluid! So anways, I was out riding today and it started making some bad clanking noises and i figured it was the rear sprocket that needed changing, but i headed for home. Well no sooner than i head for home and i hear one really loud creak and stop. I try to go but the left side won't turn, the motor just revs and after a couple seconds the tranny makes an awful sound. So I didn't have time to investigate as it was getting dark, but do you guys think that side of the transmission is completely gone? Or do u think it will be alright when i add fluid or what? Any info would be appreciated!! THANKS!!
P.S. the right side of the tranny still works fine |

Most likely, it is the transmission shifter on the left side. They are designed to fail - in my opinion - with a short pressed in pin. Improper shifting will dislodge the pin.
You need to pull the engine to look at the shifter.
You can get complete manuals for RI. If you are a little handy, you should be able to repair it with no trouble. |

Brett did you check the shifter pin on the left side? My Max II may have the same problem. Just want to know if it was difficult to get to the pin or can you see it without pulling the engine. Thanks, Frank |
