Problem solved. A local superwinch dealer had a similar 2500 Lb "superwinch" on the shelf. I inspected the wiring harness and found it used two 40 Amp circuit breakers in parallel, thereby giving a maximum 80 Amp protection. They sold for 4$ each and have made a great difference in the power capabilities of the winch.

Gord, I just bought a 1500 Superwinch and it came with a single 50 amp breaker and was wired with
#10 guage wire. Just thought I'd let you know.
The 80 amp breaker should be alright, but it does seem kind of big from stock. Good luck, and drive safe.

Thanks for the information Rich. There is a new twist to this story, I contacted the Superwinch folks at their Website and told them of my story. They graciously offered to send me the wiring specs and provide a circuit breaker free of charge. I was impressed with Superwinch. They are obviously a professional organisation that stands behind their product.

I am awaiting these things in the mail. Until then, I'll take it easy on the winch, but something tells me that the twin 40 Amp breakers that I've wired in parallel (effective 80 Amp protection) will do the trick.

By the way Rick, did you know they have a complete parts breakdown schematic of the T-1500 on their web site? You can see it at http://www.superwinch.com/t15eplo.htm

Take care, and have fun. By the way, that's one funky machine you own! I've never seen one close up.

Cheers,

Gord

I have a Bigfoot with a winch also. The winches have a stall feature that shuts it down when the load is to much and then turns it back on in about 30 seconds. If you get a pully block and double the cable back to the vehicle, you will double the winches power and get out of anything.

Thanks Tim.

That feature that you are talking about is provided by the inclusion of circuit breakers. I have since received a set of three 40Amp circuit breakers from a technical specialist at www.superwinch.com making the total protection now 120Amps. I've used the winch since then and it works a treat now. Like it should really.

Cheers,

Gord
