I have a Attex 208/TT early 70s model .It has a
8hp briggs . It seems a little under powered . My
question is ? Was this the factory powerplant ? if
not how big of a engine could i install without
harming the running gear . I bought this rig two
years ago it was a total basket case , and I have
totally restored it . I fabercated a roll bar as
well as new hubs and four axles and replaced all
the bearings and rebuilt the engine .It looks and
runs good ......Roger in Oregon

roger my first attex was a 208-tt, yes thats the right engine, and yes it's underpowered, i put a 1972 rupp T N T 440cc 2-stroke in it!
it held up ok,
but it's too much power,(could kill yah)
i sugest a rupp 340cc(tokiyo hatsodki)

Roger,

No that is not the original powerplant. It more than likely had a jlo two cycle powerplant in it displacing about 200-300cc's or so. Richard has them if you want to buy one. Richard also sold one not too long ago a old wild wolf I believe with a 295 jlo two-stroke.

pete6x6 & liftlod, the 8hp brigs is the right engine, the 208-tt also had as an option a generator for 110v ac
as to the 12hp i guess it might have bin a diferent modle year than mine or rogers, mine is a 71 modle year.
as to the single cil engine swap, thats ok i guess if your kids goin to drive it, but it's not a good swap as ther underpowered also and you wont be satisfyed, if your going to spend the time and the money on a engine swap you might as well get it right the first time, i stand by my 340cc twin cyl, recamendation as the least amont of power, " just enoph in all situations"
loaded down with cargo , pasengers and or hard day of driving and the jlo will be pushed too far and overheat, no problem with the 340cc,
it'l eat it up.

Dave,

Agreed 340cc is better :) I'd cram a v8 in mine if I could :)

I bought a attex that was not rebuildable , but i
stripped down and got a ton of parts that i could
use on my 208/tt model . My fist question is : the
transmission is slightly differant. It's a power
transmission series 7000 ser no. 0254 . it has a
transmission between the steering disks on the
shaft is this a fwd/rev transmission , is it easy
to rebuild ? the transmission in my rebuilt
208/tt does not have one in the center between the
disks. my second question : where can i get pads
for calipers it takes 8 all together . do know how
much they cost too ? ......roger in oregon

Liflod,

The Attex line used several trannys including the t20. Richard more than likely has parts for the 7000 and it's not a bad tranny either. Richard prolly has the brake pads also or ones you can substitute. I've found mixed results with the old brakes. If you improve the powerplant the brakes ned improvement also. I am currently working on replacing the standard brake system in my attex with hydralic discs. Roadwolf yes it's me I'm still working on the old Attex coming along good though I just ordered a muffler from Richard. Good thing Richard doesn;t live closer I'd be buying stuff from him all day :). I've been out of the 6x6 scene for awhile after Sept 11th I lost my Navy job but that ain't stoppin me I'm gonna finish this thing and be a pete c's ride in april then up in ny in july!
