I have an 18hp Briggs Stratton two cylinder installed on an 8x8 Argo ATV.

The starter bendix gear is totally stripped. Starter still turns over fine.

Problem is, the starter (and flywheel) is all behind a shroud. It looks to me like the shields have to come off to get this change done. But the pull starter gear/flywheel is larger than the opening in the shield. So I can't just lift the shield off.

Does that make sense?

Any ideas or experience changing out this starter would be huge!

Thanks.

Doug K.
