Hi all,
I've just bought a 2001 Argo Conquest. Due to collect the machine end of next week. First time ownership of any skid steer vehicle! On the plus side it has done less than 300 hours and been serviced after every outing. On the minus side it has been in salt water and sand. A lot.
Are there any UK based users of this site that know about road registering, insuring and MOT certifying these vehicles. It is a road legal vehicle with lighting kit, a reg number and log book, but has been used off the road for the last year. It's been owned by the RNLI so is registered as a lifeboat launch vehicle. Would it be easier to insure if I re- register it as an agricultural vehicle?
Now a question that other people might be able to answer: I understand the top speed of this Kawasaki 620D engined vehicle is less than 20mph. As I hope to use it for short, local trips on public roads (between my house and the beach!) I know this is going to be slow and cause tailbacks behind and annoy everyone- so I'd like to get more speed. A look at the spec of the 620D motor online tells me it has a governor. A look at the Kawasaki Mule sites tells me it is the work of 10 mins with a quarter inch drill bit to derestrict and reduce the governing on a Mule with the 620d motor. This allegedly immediately unleashes 10-15mph more top end without going over the motor's max recommended RPM. Does the engine in the Argo conquest have the same governor? Has anyone had a play with this?
Can the final drive ratio be easily changed?
Final question: Does anybody sell inflatable floats for these vehicles? I'm planning to get an inflatable collar made to reduce the chances of the thing rolling over as I'll be using it a lot with an outboard motor on a tidal inlet that can get waves up to 2 ft on it. The inflatable collar will also increase the in water ride height to hub level or slightly higher, so I wonder if it will mean the wheels drive a bit better in water? (less forward fling of water from the tyres). I'm under no illusions though and know that to use it in any real way in tidal water it's always going to need an OB motor to get anywhere at any kind of speed.
