Hi, my Max IV 18 Hp Vanguard is not idling right. Starts up good, but when you push the choke in, its starts stumbling and then cuts out. Runs okay with choke about 1/4 of the way in. Replaced the fuel filter the other day, air filter about 2 years old, ran it almost out of gas and then put fresh in, problem still there. Any suggestions?? Thanks much

Is the machine sitting a lot? Sounds like carb problems. When the carbs get a little gunky they usually run a little lean. If you live in New England I can help. I have carb experiance and a dip tank.

Yesterday I tried Sea Foam in the carb. Outside of making one hell of a smudge, it didn't fix the problem. Could it be the fuel pump?

Tim,
Where do you live? I'm in Vermont. Thanks.

I live just south of worcester, ma. I would be happy to get together sometime and look at your machine. Do you have any riding where you are? Not much around me, I usually go to New Hampshire.

Tim,
I use mine for getting wood out of the woods. Outside of that, I don't ride it that much.
Think I'm going to have to work on the carb some by the sounds of some other feedback I've got.
Ron
