Hi, I am new to this site and a new owner of a old 1985 8 I/C with a 17hp kohler and also a factory cab. I would like to make my own tracks and contacted argo dealer for tack guide kit. They were very helpful but warned that I would cause damage to drive components and cause a lot of maintenence. What do you guys think about this and what would I need for upgrades for tracks to work? |

On these older machines, you can use tracks- You have to remember though that tracks will add strain to the machine while running it and the increased maintenence will be from your drive system- Chains and bearings will wear faster on these older machnines, If your machine has no bearing extensions, you might want to look into upgrading. YOU can add tracks, but the dealer is correct in saying it could cause damage. Running tracks sucks out about 2 HP from your engine so your machine will be considerably slower. I would also steer clear of the super tracks as they are hard to turn cause of the added width and weight. |

I was gouing through some of the older related posts and they helped a lot along with your comment. How many of these bearing extensions are needed and should I upgrade the front and rear axles. Thanks for your help. |
