Looking for a little help on the removal of the transmission from my '91 Argo Magnum. Spent a couple hours last night removing chains, brakes and not sure which bolts I need to remove to get the casing out. There are two larger (3/4" if memory serves me correctly) sitting lower and two more that pass through the housing of the tranny which are the ones that need to come out. From where I am at now it appears as though I need to remove the driven clutch, the drive axle which is connected to the transmission by the chain and the brake disc so I can get the bolts holding the transmission casing in place. This is the first time I have tore into this but I am slipping reverse gear a bit too often and figure it is time to take a look. How hard are these to pull apart once on the bench - any info appreciated. |

Yes you will need to remove the disc itself, unless the disc has the access hole, turn rotor to see if yours has this "hole" used to access the bolt. Some disc have the hole, some do not.
Good news is the trans comes apart with out special tools

Thanks for the reply Richard, the disc's do have access holes for the caliper bolts but unfortunately not for the transmission mounting bolts. Once I free the drive axle (it needs bearings as well I have just discovered) I should be good to go with pulling the tranny. |
