I'm new to this sport. I was givin a 98 maxiv that was neglected for several years and now in the process of getter her back on track. I installed a new alternator after discovering that mice had nested in the old one and basically pee,d all over it rendering it usless. I'm getting a charge to the battery according to the meter in the 14 to 15 volt range but as soon as the lights are turned on it goes to the negative end and doesn't move even when puting the rpm,s to it. I tried 2 different batteries with the same results. anyone have any clue to what it might be? I even checked the ground wires

Are you using the internal alternator or some kind of external one? What engine do you have?

I have seen bad grounds or a real bad battery make these charging systems act funny. I hope someone can help more.
