Can anyone tell me how to determine when a drive belt is wearing out? I have an older Argo Magnum and it seems to be struggling with power with the tracks on this year. I have not noticed it before this year so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I haven't had a chance to tear into it as it's beed cold here so I am basically fishing at this point. I have not changed the belt since I have owned it so I don't know what to expect when it's going. I think the engine is operating fine, except for the inability to idle but that has been from day one.

A "rule of thumb" is that when the belt sits lower than the edges of the secondary clutch, it's replacement time. Thenn again a good dose of Seafoam in the gas tank and a good run may open up the carb plumbing to get it running its optimum. |

Thanks Erich, still can't find seafoam here in Canada, at least not in the town I am in. No one carries the stuff it seems. I do have to cross the border into the US so I may look for it there. I will check the belt when I get a chance. My shop is just needing the ceiling insulation, the metal walls, and full power, but it's warmer than outside right now.

Johan; in addition I checked my parts manual, my belt, ARGO part# is 125-56, 1 7/16" wide by 52" long, minimum width is 1 5/16" or 33mm. I don't know if it would be the exact same belt on your model.
I get my Seafoam at Carquest in Barrie, Ont, about $11 a can. |

Erich, finally found a dealer who sells it and got a can although I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Will let you know. |
