All,
I am in the middle of completly rebuilding my 2002 Argo Bigfoot. I have new front axle chains. They are going on so tight, that I can't put in the master link. I have a little tool for holding the chain in place, but I am short about 1/32 of an inch. Any Ideas or suggestions would be great. The newly rebuilt engine is ready to go in, but this is holding me up. How tight should be new front axle chains. |

Don:
Install the chain with an extra link with its own master link, run machine for an hour, the new chain will stretch during its break in period. Then take out the extra link and reinstall chain and ride, ride ride!
All drive roller chain on these machines need 1/2" free play.

Don - heat the chain up. Not so its too hot to handle but warn enough. It will grow the 1/32 you need and then some. |

Be careful not to "cook" the oil out of the chain.
But it seems that when the chain cools, if may be to hard on the bearings? What do you think?

Bill - I've done it more then I care to admit. It works really well. Like Jeff said don't get it so hot it cooks the oil out.
I've laid them in the sun before to get them to grow and thats all it usually takes. In the winter I put thin in front of the shop heater on a bucket for a few minutes. |

We happen to have some very warm weather comming this weekend 80 + degrees, I will give it a try. If it does not work, I will use Richard's way with the extra link, I do have the old chains with plenty of links. When I tried to put the chains in it was 40 degrees out. |

I bought them from Richard Clark the owner of this web site and they came in as origonal Argo parts. |
