What brand/size pull rating winch do you have? What are your thoughts on winches? bill |

I run a Warn 1600, which is of course a 1600lb pull, it has a 25' cable... I think it is silly to put a big honking winch on a vehicle that weighs only 700lbs. I bought mine on eaby new for 199$ ship. They are available all over the web. I would recommend not buying a cheap china winch that all the discounters seem to sell today. Brad |

i agree, Even with a smaller winch on these light weight machines you have to be carefull. Pull angles, attachment points when double lineing etc have to be considered. Improper use will bend frames and tweak things. bill |

I too use a small 1500 winch, never even seemed to strain, anything bigger is just money wasted

Dont for get the snatch block, cable/rope extension, and at least two tree straps or chains. I also carry a shovel/winch rope anchor that I made for those times when there is nothing to tie off to. Bill |

I have a 3000lb Warn and it don't ever strain, easier on the battery to be a little overpowered, as you don't max the thing out and drain it. |

Good idea not to strain as that does drain battery fast

The more load you put on one the more power you will draw from the battery. Don't forget that the rating-3000 lb for example, is with only 5 or so wraps on the winch drum, a single layer of cable so to speak. The more line you pull in the less pulling force you will have. |
