After having my drain plugs come out several times, I looked for a solution. I found some 3/4 inch freeze plugs at the auto parts. The problem is that you can't hold the plug to tighten it, unless you hold if from the inside. Not wanting to have to open the tub each time, I came up with a solution. Using a hacksaw or die grinder, cut a slot in the bolt. You can then hold the bolt with a screwdriver and tighten the nut as tight as needed. Same for removal.
