i have a older argo 8x8 and i was wondering how big of an engine i can fit in it i want it to be a power house and didnt know if i could fit any of these engines vangaurd 27 hp,or the 31 or 35 hp engine. and if i were to go with a kohler wich engine should i use i have form 20 hp to 38 how big can i go with out destroying the trans?

I put a 22 hp kohler magnum in mine. No fit problems. I am going to put a 3 cyl. chev. sprint motor in it, done all the measurements anf it will fit easily. This is a 50 hp motor, if you run it reasonable it should hold up, if you run it hard something will break even with a motor of far less power. I want the sprint motor because parts and initial cost are way below any of the small engines like honda,briggs,kohler etc. It weighs in at 138 lbs. my kohler is 130. Any of the other motors you mention will fit but cost is a factor for my choice.
