On my Argo bigfoot, I want to put tracks on it, I now have the 25 inch rawhide tires and am wondering what size tire I have to switch to? if there is a certain tread pattern you suggest?

I want to go with the rubber tracks, everything I have heard here points to the fact that the rubber is the way to go.

I only want a foot wide or so, it seems to me that going with the super wides, would be hard on everything, axels, motor, chains, just seems in my mind to be a big strain vs something more like a foot wide.

I would also like to keep as much ground clearance as possible, the prior owner to mine said he had 20 inch tires with his tracks,( he kept the tracks and tires to put on his new machine, so I got the brand new 25 inchers off his new machine ) that seems to be quite alot of clearance lost, but maybe thats what is supposed to be used.

He also said that by going with an 11 inch wide track, I do not need axel extensions, is this true?

Its all yours, please help?

Joe

Joe: To switch to the Argo brand tracks you need the Goodyear Runamuk 22-10-8 size tires, they are the ones that fit. If you go with the standard track, no extensions are required. I would strongly suggest that if you are going with tracks to at least use the front axle extensions. My Bigfoot came standard with the front ones. The super tracks, 18" do put a lot of extra strain on the machine, if it's only for snow then it's not bad, it will give a lot of extra floation in deep snow. All that said, I almost despise using the plastic Argo tracks, there's a lot of rattling and clattering, like driving an APC on pavement, skakes the filling out of your teeth. I'll try and find the link for the rubber tracks.

Joe: The rubber tracks are also available to go over the 25" Rawhide tires you have now. Here's the link: http://www.argorsbolduc.com/items.html#new%20and%20exclusive

Erich, Our Avengers come with 25" rawhides but they are 1/2" narrower than the 25" Rawhides that came on the Bigfoots. I think you were right when you said that the Bigfoot needed 22-10-8 Runamuks to mount tracks. I may be wrong but a call to ODG or e-mail them could save problems. For sure the rubber tracks are the way to go.

Bolduc's site says his rubber tracks "can be adapted" to Bigfoots. I think Bolduc has a few more options than ODG does. He pioneered the rubber tracks before argo released theirs.

I spoke with Rejean at Bolduc last summer and if I recall right, I think his track will fit a Bigfoot if you run the new 24" Frontier tire on it.

Thanks Len and Roger, it doesn't relate much but I find it interesting that the Escargo Co. in Timmins seems to say that you have to mount Frontier tires to install their Escargo tracks on an Avenger.

Thank you, I will have to look at it in more detail, when i look at my bigfoot with the 25 inch tires, there isnt even an inch of clearance between the top of the tire and the actual Argo body, but maybe a 24 inch tire would work. I think Ill email buldoc and get their opinion, its too bad you have to not only invest in the tracks, but 6 new tires, it makes it a little more spendy. Good thing summer is coming, I really wont have to worry a whole lot till fall before the snow flys again. I really wish the snow here would go away, I have had about enough of it for the year.

Philip, the escargo tracks have about 1" blade that protrudes from the track. There is not enough clearance under the body with the 25", so going with the 24" gives another 1/2 inch of clearance which I guess is enough to pass the blade. I suspect that it would still hit the bottom though as the standard rubber track will even smack it once in a while.
