Anyone know the proper idle speed for the 31 hp EFI motor. Kholer says 1500 in the manual...Which is way to high to shift and 1200rpm's is the least wheras the battery is not discharging. So it must be between these two numbers...Shifting seems to be a bitch..mine is a 2007...any help PLEASE

Your drive belt is probably too tight. I sold a 2007 Avenger and had to adjust the belt on it. The belt is adjusted by the driven clutch on the trans. Shifting is very easy on the Avenger when adjusted properly. Your dealer should take care of this for free if under warranty. Also, that same Avenger shredded the belt at six hours. Argo forgot to put a bolt in the clutch on the engine. Whoops! |

Does the tranny need to move to loosen the belt or does the clutch need work. I did'nt know the belt could be adjusted... Makes sense though..I'll see what i can find. Thanks Joe |

The trans is not movable and stays in place. You'll have to pull the clutch off the trans. On the back of it (trans side) there are two small allen screws with keeper nuts. Tighten those allen screws a half turn at a time, evenly, until the clutch opens more and the belt rides lower. Reassemble and you'll be in good shape. |

Thanks for the great info..I set the idle to 780 rpms and the engine ran good and the shifting is much easier. Not sure if 780 rpm's is too low and if that could harm the motor. No one seems to know what rpm to set the idle. Kholers manual says 1500+/- 50rpms. On any Argo ive owned that would destroy the trans..so go figure.
