Its been a while since I posted. I sort of feel guilty for only posting when I have questions.

Anyway... we decided to add the outboard motor bracket to our Avenger. My question is, does anyone have any advice which outboard motor to use with the Avenger EFI?

Also, any tips on where to shop? I had no idea how expensive these motors were.

I would go with a 2 cycle 9.9 hp out board. they are abot 30 lbs lighter than a 4 stroke of the same hp. My 9.9 Mecury 4 stroke weighs in at 111 lbs.

Kurt, I bought my new Avenger EFI about a month ago. It goes twice as fast in the water wearing the tires and wheels designed for a Max IV. It rides rough and the nose is low in the water with only a driver. Yesterday I tried using two of the regular tires on the front and 6 Max tires on the other axles. I will be experimenting more at the Ledges event next week. This fall I am planning on mounting an outboard motor. I will be interested to see what you buy. I am thinking about the air-cooled 5 hp Briggs and Stratton outboard. They are less expensive , wouldn't overheat if they got a little muddy and there are lots of dealers. Does your Argo have a shiny item under the centre of the bar behind the front seat? It looks like a fuel hose hook-up to me. If it is wouldn't that be wonderful? Good luck with your machine! W. Hi all
I was wondering what the lowest horse power outboard one could use to push the Avenger at a good trolling speed?? I would think that a 9.9 would be more than enough but could you do it with let's say a 5 HP. Saves weight and one could use a four stroke??

How heavy is the motor and is it a 9.9 HP? What speed does it produce? Thanks for your post.

It weights 108lbs and is 9.9hp. Also, it has an integral power tilt and I use an Electro-Steer as you can see in the first picture. Steers with two buttons. All the controls can be accessed from the Argo's drivers seat. I don't know how fast it goes, no GPS. Controls

No I have an 8 wheel Response but I don't see why it wouldn't work on an Avenger.

Do you have the standard OB mount on the back of your Response? I was wondering that a 108 lbs seems like a lot of weight on the wooden mount. I have the Avenger with the standard mount. Thanks for the pics. They are very helpful.

I suppose I should explain that we had to do some beefing up of the OB mount and the rear end of the Argo. We had to attach an aluminum plate to the OEM mount and ran some tubing down to the hitch it's painted black in the first picture. We also ran a 2"x2"x1/8" wall square aluminum tube across the inside of the rear of the Argo. It runs from where the curve starts on each side. We're using a separate battery but you could hook it to the Avenger battery. I don't know if having two charging systems connected to one battery would cause problems without some sort of switch or something to isolate the two. We have spliced into the Argo's fuel line so no separate tank is needed.

I don't want to get that detailed with the OB. I want to use the machine to complete some aquatic weed applications and for recreational use. Since you don't have a gps system for ground speed what is your best guess for ground speed with the 9.9 hp motor. I would like to keep the weight down with a smaller engine if possible due to the fact that we have spray equipment and two pax. on board the Avenger. You obviously have a lot of fun in the H2O with the set up you have. What do you use it for? And I do appreciate your help.

6-7 mph is my best guess. Those 8 wheels really drag down the speed. The prop is a 7" pitch if that helps. I use it for fishing mostly. Being a wheelchair user I needed a setup that could be used from the front seat.

Whatever OB you choose remember you need at least a 20" shaft length. I don't know whether the Briggs suggested above can be had with a long shaft.

Hi Richard Johnson-I love your pictures.I don,t know how I missed them last Aug. Your setup is absolutely ingenious. For your purposes the ability to steer and trim and tilt from the front seat,is mandatory and the solution is fabulous. I am curious how you fastened the 2"x2" aluminum tube across the rear of your Conquest, on the inside.( -above or below the joint between the two tubs? bolted to the outside or the inside?) I am hoping to come up with something a little simpler to deal with after I get to the far shore and need to run through the bush,but I already know that I have to stiffen the rear end. Thanks W. The 2"x2" tube is above the joint in other words across the upper tub. The old style upper OB motor bracket is in the center and attached with two carriage bolts to the upper body. We used two coupling nuts on the carriage bolts and extended them with threaded rod right through the tubing. We tried not to drill more holes in the body than necessary. The only holes that could not be helped were drilled in the inner lip of the upper body for the remote next to the driver. Thats an aluminum angle that the steering box is attached to and is just there to provide attachment points.

Oh, and my estimate of the speed above is a little low. After more experience with it I would estimate the speed at closer to 9-10 mph.

I used a long shaft 3.5 Hp Nisson outboard on my magnum and will use the same one on my newly bought 2007 avenger EFI..works great..very light motor ..i think 35 lbs..with built in fuel tank... plastic prop like a trolling motor which is super durable and cheap.

Welcome to this forum Joe. I also own an Av. EFI. Glad to hear that only 3.5 moved your older magnum. Where are you from? When you get the EFI into the water (that might take a while?) I would love to see a picture.
