Anyone ever heard of a belt problems with the 23hp kohler max 4 mine is slipping bad |

70 hours and i been through 3 belts and its has a new converter on the transmission my clutch when you run your fingers where the belt rides there is like a graphite material coming off the clutch on the motor... |

It almost sounds like the primary and/ or secondary clutch were "over-lubed". Graphite is a preferred dry lubricant for centrifugal clutches, but if you get it on the belt, it could certainly begin slipping. I would use a decent brake cleaner/ degreaser over both the primary secondary clutch, wipe down both "clutches" with paper towels so that they're spic-and-span, relube and try again. You'll probably have to clean the belt off really well, as well.

Bret, And in addition to doing what Mike suggested, get some belt dressing (from NAPA or other such store) and use it on a regular basis (every thirty five to fifty hours). I use the liquid/paste kind and put it on both edges with my finger; if you use the spray kind, take the belt off first so you don't get belt dressing all over your engine and in your starter. Belt dressing just goes on the two edges that contact the sides of the pulleys.
Regular use of belt dressing will ensure great performance always and will allow your belt to last about 30% or more longer. |

thatnks for all of the help. is anyone selling a max11, max1v or argo that need a little work or a lot of work. |
