Chris,
Like you I bought my first 6x6. Last year. Here is what I have to offer as far as performance. The 6x6 will go about anywhere a quad will, but the difference is that the quad will go some places a 6x6 will not and also vice versa. My Max II is great for swamps, etc... and it will climb through brush nd over logs that would jar you to death on a quad. The only draw back is that, where I live, there are a lot of "bottomless" stretches that are maybe 10-15 feet across. My Max will bottom out and dose not have the speed to let the momentum force it through. The quad has less undercarriage and more speed so it will make it. (Please understand that the quad does not pull any better and that if the area is big enough it will sink too.) I am currently trying to find another 6x6 that I will make some major modifications to in an effort to fix this problem. Good luck.

George, what year is your Max and what tires and engine did you get? I can help you out with the modifying, as I am in the middle of doing that myself. We definately need more accelleration and wheel spin.

Anyone know where (besides RI) to get the wing nuts used on the Max bodies??

Does anyone have a suggestion of what to use for a windshield bumper - the rubber posts the windshield rests on when it's in the down position? Thanks a bunch.

Any hardware store should have the wing nuts. As far as the rubber posts, you might be able to find something at a hardware store or maybe a muffler shop?

I know I could get wing nuts at a hardware store - I was looking for the type found on the Max. They have a built in washer on the base. Are they proprietary or are they found on other things??

As for the windshield bumper, I fashioned something from two rubber stoppers fixed end-to-end. I drilled a small hole in them and it seems to be working.

hey,
im new to the argo trend jsut jumped on the band wagon my buddy and i were given an old 1978 argo 8x8 by his grandfather, we took her out this past weekend and she was running alright but definately in need of a good tune up! on our way back to the farm just as we got to the edge of the property... she died.... turns over great but she wont stay runnin... i assume carb work, change the fuel lines, filters and what not... considering that was the furthest she has driven in 5 years, but anwyays we were told and shown by my budys grandfather where he thought the "points" were on the argo and that they wuld proably have to be replaced but when i contacted the argo dealer earlier they said that points have never been used on argos? is this true?>

Don't know about the older engines and points, the newer series don't. Without a doubt, you have a fuel problem, a dirty carb that needs cleaning and a healthy dose of Seafoam in the tank with fresh gas.

I am new to the forum. i have a '72? 8 wheel Argo with a single cyl. Tecumseh engine. I recently broke the shifting fork on the transmission. i have suceeded (what a job) in getting it out and on to the bench. i have been able to crack the case about 1/4 in. but no further. There is a cap above the shaft that holds the brake drums. (like a frost plug on a car) is there a bolt that needs to be removed in back of this cap before I can get the side case off.? thanks for your help. Email me it is easier to find a reply. dajcat

Seafoam is a gas stabiliser, carb cleaner, and internal engine cleaner/lube, probably the best there is. If you have an older machine with a carb that's plugged up or the engione runs horrible, a good cleaning with Seafoam and a healthy dose in the tank is amazing. You can usually get it at NAPA, Carquest or other automotive stores.

Hi all can any one help with wiring on a 1976 argo with a bombardier rotax GmBh 436 mot no 2899656 three of the wires from the engine arent hooked up to anything and the rectifire only has one wire going to it Thanks for any and all help
just picked this up and i have no experience wiring a rotax
