Without starting a war, I have never been to an organized event where multi-make AATV's ride together. My question is there a clearly superior machine? If so what feature makes it superior, ie: transmission, hp, weight, tires, experience etc?

If you ride long enough you'll see every machine has an advantage/disadvantage in a particular situation. Even if you do decide on one machine, you may get tired of driving it, like only owning one car and driving it every day for every use.

Ray,
If your close to Ohio, try attending the Ledges event sponsered by by Leo's and Orr's Argo dealers. I own a Max aatv and have gone the last 3 years. They welcome ALL atvs that have six or eight wheels regardless of make. And to answer your question about which is best, the only answer I can give you is to own one, it doesn't really matter.

Oh great Ray-"without starting a war" -I don't think so! To be honest, the more rides I go on the more equal to each other the different machines seem. As long as they are amphibious. When someone that you know shows up with their 4 wheeler it just isn't possible to ride together for very long. People on this board seem to beleive that the new Argo tire is superior in all aspects. I like the fact that the rim is smaller giving the opportunity for a softer ride. I like the 26" tires on the Max 4. Big tread, can,t wear them out and Mudbuster has won the water race every year at Olean N.Y. wearing them. The machine that you have designed and built is almost too amazing to beleive. W. Philip Cox

No blood shed yet? Thanks for the feedback so far. You are confirming my thinking that if any one machine was so superior it would have captured the market. So it seems that an Argo will go where a Max will go generally speaking. After reading all the wars over 3 wheel vs. 6 wheel drive, you would think that one machine would dominate the other. This however doesnt seem the case. Your right about the new Argo tire all the feedback seems positive. I plan to attend the Olean and Ledges events looking forward to meeting the community.

From what I have seen it isn't the brand of machine in the 6x6 models but the driver and sometimes horsepower. The drivers that know how to drive, move around and shift their weight, stand and rock can get further and out of things a person just sitting still can't. Tires make more of difference than make of machine. Aggressive tires that clean out do better than the less aggressive tires in muddy stuff.

A statement was made about riding with other people on 4 wheelers, it is very true they can't keep up in extremely difficult terrain. I have lost sales because of this. A guy wanted a Max but didn't buy because his buddies would not be able to go where he could. I told him he could use it where they go now. He said that defeated the purpose of having the aatv.

I have never seen anyone get the cold shoulder at a group ride because of what they were driving. Speaking of rides. The manager at LEOR said we were welcome to go there for as many days as we want.

Ray
I agree with Roger that each machine has it own qualities pro and con. Roger's Response will hands down easily climb grades which will cause my Max 2 to want to roll over backwards. On the other hand I have had my max places Avenger's had to winch out of. Bob had it right! You should at least own one aatv and just get out and ride. The driver's experience is more than half the off road capability off the machine. You need to know how to read the terrain and use the vehicles capabilities to your advantage. I own a 55 HP rotax Max 2, an 18 HP Max 2, and a Argo Bigfoot. To compare them would be like comparing a Willy's Flat fender rock crawler jeep to an H-2 Hummer. I mean when I want to get stupid I'll put on a helmit and take it to the MAX!! When I want to take the family to the great out doors and live the out door dream I'll take the Argo.

Thanks again for the feedback, keep it coming please. Would I be correct in ranking them in importance as:

1. Experience
2. Tires
3. HP
4. Machine

What about clearance, weight. Is lighter better?
I am noticing that the state/provincial laws are getting tougher on AATV's. Just to name a few:

Width not to exceed
Number of tires
Weight
Max. cc's
Handlebar Steering
Straddle the Seat
License
Insurance
Brake Lights

What this does is limit our access to trails, because most have sections which require riding on the shoulder/ditch for short sections. The rules are made for ATV's. So how would a AATV fare with 4 wheels
30" tires
12" clearance
Experienced Rider
20 plus HP
Skid Steer Transmission
50" wheel base
50" width
600 lbs

I'll agree with Roger, they all have thier own advatages for given applications/situations.I wanted a american made, simple, powerful 4 seater that weighed under 1,000 lbs. that would fit in the back of a late model pick-up,with local availability of parts for the machine and motor so my choice was a max 4 with a kohler.
