Hey all! I just bought a 2000 max iv when whe realized a tire had a slow leak. We jacked it up and tightened the valve stem and tire is fine. Now the right side is not working in forward or reverse and it actually got easier to shift from forward and reverse. Where is the transmission fill on this year model? Could it be something else?

Mary,The tranny fluid equally affects both sides and unless there is or has been some pink stuff on the floor, your fluid is most likely fine. The upper plug on the back of the right side is vented and is the "fill" plug; the lower plug on the back of the left half is slightly magnetized and is the "fill to" plug. From the little bit that you told us (especially that it is easier to shift now), I am going to guess that you have broken the nub off the right shifter and that side is stuck in neutral. The tranny on a max IV is hard to get to with the motor in, but if you will block it up so all the wheels are off the ground, it is possible to determine if it is the shifter complex (the weak link and the easiest/cheapest to fix) or something more complex like an output shaft broken. It could be a broken linkage.

If anyone has been shifting hard, grinding or forcing, I'm probably right. Rough treatment of the T-20 only breaks things.

If you don't have an owner's manual or someone to tell/show you how to operate it, you should get one or spend a lot of time reading this forum. Did you buy this from a dealer who can help you?

I bought this thing from an estate sale. It was hard to shift and I was going to order new adapter kit but was waiting on the funds. You are probably right. I will get my husband to check. Thanks
