I am considering a set of tracks for my 18 hp Max II. I waterfowl hunt in and around lakes, and have found some areas where the mud is so sloppy that I cannot make it through with my Max II, even with low tire pressure and a light throttle. I usually have to back out of the stuff, but have had to winch out a couple of times. When I step out into the mud I sink down knee deep, and it is the consistency of pudding.
I know that tracks will kill my water performance, but will they make an appreciable difference in deep mud? If so, what brand of tracks are good? What besides wheel adapters do I need to run these? Is there anything else that I need to be concerned about if I run tracks? What are the better brands out there?

Your lack of horsepower, and the combination of tracks going threw mud will not be very good. You might consider a larger motor if you plan on doing this? |

The 18hp engine has enough power to handle the tracks well. Tru Trax are the only aftermarket option for our amphibs. They are inexpensive but performance gain is minimal. Tru Trax are plastic, don't have bearing extensions, and flotation is not as good. The factory 15" rubber tracks cost more but if they won't take you where you need to go, a helicopter is your only other option. The kit includes bearing cages (extra bearing near the wheel hub), frame rail, and wheel extensions. You also need 21" tires. Any tracked amphib can be quite expensive. |

We sell Tru Trax, dispite what the above person states, we feel performace is very good, nice option for the money, not a good as factory but still VERY good. Nice option for those who watch their money. Bearing extensions are available if you want to spend the money
The Tru Trax, in which we sell, are almost the same size, shape and construction as factory ARGO standard tracks, in which almost everyone knows work very well with a excellent service history.
Our tracks also have the nice option of replacement sections, so if something becomes damaged, instead of buying a whole track, you just buy a 16$ section, small performace gain? We do not think so!

We would recommend only buying used tracks if they are newer than 10 years old as ALL rubber and plastic become harder and will crack with age.
Yes I agree 18hp will work, but in heavy mud you will be wishing you had more HP.

Are "Super Tracks" a brand to consider as well? I have seen them mentioned on this site before, and did not know if they are a viable brand for a Max.
The helicopter is out of my price range, and will scare the ducks away.  |

Super Tracks are Argo's 18" wide track. They are plastic but their width gives good floatation. That track goes on Argos with only a 2.5" wide wheel spacer. I don't know what it would take to fit it to a Max II. Tru Trax are 12.5" wide and Argo standard tracks are 13" wide. Max rubber tracks are 15" and Argo rubber tracks (Frontier, Avenger) are 18". |
