Wondering if some one could help me out. I cannot get the cover off the tranny on my 1982 argo. Took all the bolts off. Ran a putty knife around the cover to break the gasket loose. Also took the little clip of the small shaft that comes out of the side of the tranny. Don't want to pry on it to much I am scared I will snap the cover. What am I missing. Thought it would come off with out a problem. Am I in for any surprizes when I get the cover off. Like gears falling out or bearing falling out . Anything to watch for before I take the cover off. Hope someone can help me out. Thanks Ernie |

Make sure you have the counter sunk bolt out too. then you must take the snap rings off the axle on the housing side there is a shim on the axle don't mix them up and don't loose them. Then take a large rubber hammer and hit the axle on the housing side and the cover will come off with the gear system in it, you will then need to the other side. This is not a process for a novis there are more challenges then just what I told you. Best bet is get a service book or have an Argo guy do it for you |

They don't come apart easily that's for sure. You'd be amazed at how strong that casting is. Be careful if you take the differential apart as there are some small needle bearings in it. Also, make sure not to get your fingers in the gears as you turn any of them. They are sharp and unforgiving. Make sure to replace your seals since you have it apart. I'd also make sure to use some good brand name gear lube when you get it back together. You can use Yamabond to seal the two case halves back together. |

Ernie, I was wondering if you could take some pictures of the inside of the Argo differential
once you get it apart? or you may already have it apart & back together again. I have never seen the inside of an Argo Differential before. Could you post them on this thread or send them to me
