Greeting gents, I don't yet own a amphib, I have a couple Polaris Sportsmans. I'm not going to sit here a brag about them, different application. What I'd like to know is can a Max or Argo's 14 or 16 hp engine be replaced w/ lets say a 23 HP vangard w/ no upgrades to the drivetrain? I live in Calif...amphibs are not often seen out west. Where can I find a decent used amphip at a decent price? And where can I find out more about amphibs? I've read many of the articles posted here and are furthering my education...thanks guys. yes they can...
but if you can wrench that upgrade why not some more?
once the 23hp is in place you can upgrade it with a rev kit from 600raceing...
might boost it to 35hp!..
but then you need to upgrade some of your drivetrain!
you can get quality used vehicles threw richard clark of this site..
but if you check dealers they sometimes handle used vehicles when they have tradeins and such...
and now theres some dealer financeing options on new ones as well...
if you serch the owner registry you may find someone who owns one in your area you can talk to about purches questions, opinions,maintanence and rideing areas ect..ect.. |

I turn a wrench when I have to, as a matter of fact, that's how I used to make a living, but avoid it now days unless it's necessary. Whatever I get will have to have tracks added to it in the future due to the places I'd be taking it (gold mining claims). I've looked on ebay, but really am not getting a true picture of the $ value these things are worth. Plus they all seem to be located in Penn. Ohio, or up in Wisconsin...hope I spelled that right. Which means I wouldn't have a chance in hell of testing the unit out. But I am very interested in amphibs and when the right one comes down the pike, I'll hopefully take advantage of the occasion. Jack to answer your question, We have Polaris Sportsman 500's. They are great machines for over hill and dale through minor stream or river crossings as long as we're talking under 2' of water. w/ not much of a current. We are planning another Alaska Trip...(we gold mine) and some of the river crossings would be very hazardous using a quad, 4x4 or not. Alaska is not a place you can make mistakes or lose equipment. I'll caution of the side of safety. Up in the Nome area, some areas the muskeg is like quicksand. Quads work great up there in most areas. We want to utilize both. Semper Fi. Fuzzy |

Fuzzy, check out Bubba Hunts website, shadow mountain outdoors, or look for it under stories section on route 6x6, he lives in Alaska, hunts moose etc. and uses a 6x6 |
