how do i know when i have put enough grease in wheel berrings on a max IV, should i put it in till it comes out somewhere, i heard not to. and easiest way on checking and changing trans fluid. |

Troy,
looks like you bought the machine congrats! 1 or 2 pumps of a grease gun only. If you pump until it comes out you've blown out your seals. Did you get the fill plug off on the T-20. It should come off counter clockwise. Be careful with using too much force. The cast casing can strip

yes i did finally get it off , its more like a round bolt now rather then square and it had what looked like a peice of copper wire in the vent hole , i didnt think that was correct so i pulled it out is that ok? and if i grease it 1 or 2 pumps how often should i do this , im really nervous bout this part cause it floats without taking on even a drop of water, i asked him if he ever greased it he said no |

Troy,
I believe what you pulled out of the plug is actually a magnet to attract any metal shavings that happen to circulate in the oil. These shavings etc. come from the bands normal wearing and any stray shavings from other metal parts. If I were you I call Richard Clark to verify that that is actually what you did. I would order one rather than use a standard pipe plug.Regarding your question about bearings. One squirt is enough. DO NOT THINK MORE IS BETTER. IT IS NOT. IF you you use your machine only a couple of hours a week, you should be able to go about a month before greasing. The temptation to grease after every use should be avoided!! If you blow the seals on the bearings and use your machine in the water you better have a bilge pump on board. You leak water at a pretty good clip. Wheel bearing replacement is not an easy job. It is a rather envolved job. It is also costly. Hope this info helps you out. |

Troy--My Max IV has several strands of "copper wire" in the VENT plug of the T 20. to act as a strainer to keep dirt out but still allow the T 20 to vent when it warms up. Obviously if you used a standard un-vented plug you would expect to have a leaky tranny after a short ride. Get an eight point socket to remove the square plugs. A12 point socket rounds the corners ,then slips. The plug with the magnet in it goes in the bottom hole. The vented plug--in the top. |
