Help! I've got a late 70's early 80's Muscateer and I am having a bear of a time trying to find any kind of technical breakdown on this machine. All I have to do is toss in an 8 or 10hp engine, do some minor adjustments and I'm off and runnin. Any kind of info, any kind at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, not such a bear anymore..... Seems this machine is the "black sheep" of the AATV world? Did the Muskat corp. get cast into the fiery depths of off-roadery or is there still some kind of maintenance/repair manual for this thing? Just wonderin, goin nuts.....

Alllllright..... I've put a little time into the "black sheep" and found the left rear chain tensioner seized. Brake parts cleaner and some lube made short work of that. Spinnin good now! Front chains need a good soakin some diesel and then lubed. And I've given up the hope of finding a 4 stroke to put in. I've got a Terra Tiger with a JLO Rockwell that I'm weldidng in this week. Then upgrade to a 440 twin. Hopefully the tranny won't give cause of the extra RPM's. WANT MORE SPEED. I'm confident though. Tranny weighs about 120lbs and holds darn near 2 gal of ATF. Stupid transmission. Someday I'll fold and get a T-20. Someday....

Oh man...... Got the engine mounts welded in and engine bolted down, drive belt hooked up and carb gone through. I must say, my buddy who welded the engine mounts did a terrific job! Now the Rockwell is proving to be one hell of a touch and go pile a frustration. The pull start cable broke cause it flayed out in a few places and just kept unraveling then jamming. Got a rope outta an Kawasaki Artic Cat 292cc pull start and had to manually wrap it around the pull start wheel each time. Yank then wind. Yank then wind. Tedious. By the way does anyone one know what that tranny takes as far as fluid? Right now it's runnin ATF.

OK... so maybe the carb on that JLO Rockwell leaked like a sive for a little bit and I had to find someone in town who sold an NGK A-8 plug but ended up using A-7's (hotter plug anyway) but, we had er running under it's own power tonight. YEAH!!!! Finally! I'm terribly worried that tranny won't take the RPM load of the JLO (292cc). Suckers gonna haul some ass if it can. Very loud without a pipe I might add. Very, very loud. But hella fun!!! Still gotta find some chains for the front and middle sprockets and then..... Startin to like the smell of 2-stroke awesome power. Next installment: Driving performance.

D'OH! I'm gonna have to go with a 4-stroker. The JLO is bass ackwards to try and weasel in the throttle cable. And I don't want to melt the seats with the exhaust pipe. Pros and cons.... Other than that this turd is ready to fly. So I rekon if I'm gonna do it, might as well do it right, huh? Infernal machine's!!! Gotta love em.

if you know anyone who is willing to take it on the jlo can be chainged to have the carb and exaust where you want em(ass forwards)
the 4 nuts on bottom of cylinder come off and with a lift you can swing the top arround and drop it again, that is if you havent poped the piston rings out the bottom while you were at it or broke the paper gasket between the block and cylinder base.
otherwise you need to replace the base gasket and use a piston ring compressor to chaing it arround.
if it is worth a try at least your jlo wont be ass backwards anymore!

Mr. Berger... Thank you so much for your reply. For a while I thought I was just typin to myself because I've seen only a few other posts about this particular machine. Ya' know the black sheep thing. I was not aware you could do that with that JLO. I never thought of doing that and it makes perfect sense. I'm still worried about that RPM load on the tranny. Richard told me the RPM would tear the machine up. He suggested a 13hp Honda Clone engine. As much as I would love to dump 5 or 600 bucks into another engine and clutch I'm just not able to. I'll give it a wing and see if it works. I'll let ya know. Again thank you for taking the time to relpy.

Well the JLO has been put on hold as I just ordered a Tecumseh 11hp (I know. I'm going to hell). Dual alternators, electric start, ya know, the goods. Figure it'll be a little quieter and some better economy outta er. Better for the machine application too. Probably still need a clutch but I'm not sure as to what kind. I keep reading in posts that 2 stroke and 4 stroke clutches are different in that they engage at a certian RPM. Makes sense I guess. But as far as brand or this and that, I dunno. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.
