I replaced all of my inner bearing set screws with hex head bolts. I replaced all of my bearings and the rusted inner set screws were the biggest pain. My concern is the bolts don't have the small biting teeth on them like the screws. Will this make a difference on holding the axle? I only did the inner ones because the outers can be worked on easily when the axles are out of the machine. I was concerned that the Hex head bolt spinning around could be easly damaged but I think inside the machine they'll be ok. Anyone try this yet? any pros and cons?

Mike a lot of people do that swap when doing a bearing change. You can drill the axle just a bit and let the bolt set down in it to get a good position lock. The pros are a larger surface area and more leverage when disassembling the bearing from the axle. The set or grub screws can be a source of frustration for many people. Especially when they have some age on them or when there has been the hard red loctite used. The thing to watch out for is to use a very hard grade of bolt. Some people may go with a soft steel generic bolt and it could strip or slip on the axle. Another thing a person can do is drill the head of the bolt or get some predrilled bolts and run a wire through the bolt to keep it from loosening up. Did your bearing have two set screws?

Jerry,

No my bearings have the cam locking collars and only one set screw. I think the bolts I used are the generic soft grade bolts. I had a hard time finding bolts in the 5/16 fine thread. I tried home depot , Lowes, TSC none of them have them maby I can buy them online.
