I need a picture of the throttle / govenor linkage hook up on a max iv with a kohler magnum 20 engine .....THANKS BILL |

I'll try and get you a photo in the next day or so. After I put new throttle cable on, I had to play with the position of throttle in governor lever, ditto spring to get it to work right. Not sure that my setup is factory but it seems to work./BBC |

Bill,go to kohler plus site and down load a shop manual it shows how to set up gov. |

Bill, Don't know why my post went in as unregistered, but anyway I looked through my Magnum 20 manual (flyer is a better description) and I didn't see any linkage illustrations. So the photo I posted is all I have to go on. Again, seems to work fine./BBC |

Bill, I was finally able to download the Mag 20 service manual from Kohlerplus.com. It does not show the spring going from the governor arm to the oil dipstick which I sort of suspected was wrong. My governor may not be functioning correct and someone added that spring to "bypass" it. Who knows. Anyway, I suggest you talk to your local Kohler Dealer about the right setup. I will have to do a further inspection on my governor. Hope this helps./BBC |

If not so good advice it got you a free service manual,it'll show you how to position shaft so you can tighten pinch bracket in the right position.the rest is finding the right hole for full throttle with out hesitation. |

Dennis, Hope you don't think I was dissing your advice because I didn't mean to come across as such. The tip on the free service manual was a very good one. It just took me three tries (on three different PC's) to get into the site. So if I understand your last post, my governor may be fine just needs the long governor arm repositioned thus losing the rogue spring?/BBC |

No problem William,there are two settings I went thru ,the shaft that comes out of the motor in relationship to the arm.Then finding the right hole.The manual tells of the first.The other setting is by the seat of the pants.I never understood goveners on wheeled machines,for a snow blower you set your speed once and if you load the motor the govener kicks in to give more throttle until you don't need it anymore.Yeah that web site is little tricky sometimes enter as guest off hours or just go to catalog of motors,anyway glad you got your manual. |
