Howdy. I'm swapping out the motor in my Sachs-powered Amphicat. The tranny is the one with enclosed brakes and clutches

The original belt was 1'' but the new one is like 1 5/16'', or the standard snowmobile size. The new motor clutch is a Comet 94c. What can I do to make the secondary clutch accomodate the wider belt? I tried a few big nuts in it and tying them in with wire but they violently flew out. I need some type of shim or spacer that won't come out and that can take the extreme pressure of the sping. Thanks

i remember shimming the primary on my 4-wheeler years ago. i had a shim made at the local machine shop to install behind the outside primary sheave to make the belt ride lower in the primary clutch giving me a lower start ratio. i guess you could do the same with the secondary clutch. looks like you have to remove the entire secondary clutch then separate the sheaves without launching the spring and spring cover through the ceiling and install a lathe made spacer over the shaft between the sheaves to keep them from closing all the way then reassemble everything. i havent tried to do it but it looks like it might work.
