Hello, I'm new to the AATV world. I'm trying to decide on a machine. Looking at the Max IV-however I have been told that if a guy has a belly (I'm 5ft 10in and about 280lbs with a bum left shoulder to boot) the left lever can kind of be a pain to operate with the left arm compared to the offset controls on the Argo. Is this true? If so has anybody designed a modified left lever? |

Dave, The easy solution to your problem might be just sitting on the right side if you have a passenger or straddling the laterals if you are by yourself. This should probably be done for balance anyhow (remember that balance and equal PSI on the ground is important when flotation is important - that's why those of us who prefer Max do prefer Max).. On the Max IV, the levers come straight up and are hollow so you can have some metal bent in whatever shape you desire and insert it and bolt it. The stock laterals could be bent to most any position and if you ruin one, they aren't too expensive to replace. With the left lateral, you don't even have to fool with the throttle. Anything done to the Max II needs to be easily removable so the floor pan can be removed, but that isn't true with the Max IV.
My guess is that this will not really be a problem as you as driver will want to be able to drive from wherever you weight is needed even if that is from the back seat, especially when you are by yourself. |

Dave if you go to the home page of route 6x6 and scroll down to the how to heading you can find a left stick modification. When I drive the Max IV by myself I straddle the sticks. When I have someone up front with me I sit on the left side and yes your gut can get in the way. Instead of pulling back you sort of have to do a bicep curl with your left arm on the left stick. At first I hated it after driving my Argo but after I got used to it I don't think anything of it. |

You need to look at the new ARGO Handle Bar steering there is no comparison now between the ARGO and Max |

So how does braking work with the new steering system? Do you pull back on the entire steering bar or what?

The system is setup just like a snowmobile or 4x4 twist throttle on the right and hand brake on the left much more positive steering control and more room in the leg area for big guys. I also can be adjusted some for driver comfort |
